UNC Tobacco Treatment Program We promote healthy citizens and communities by providing individual and group tobacco use treatment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

How we can help...

Our trained tobacco treatment specialists help you make a quit plan and then
support you through phone calls, office visits, and/or a weekly group meeting. At your first clinic visit...

During the first appointment, we’ll talk about your current tobacco use and why
you want to quit. We’ll look at the challenges that you might face in stopping
smoking. Then we’ll make a plan th

at may include medication, as well as strategies
for dealing with stress and triggers. And what about costs? Your standard office visit co-pay will apply for the first clinic visit. There is no
charge for attending follow-up appointments or support group. Those without
health insurance can receive services at reduced cost.

Less than one month ago, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) released new lung cancer screening eligibility guidelines that lowers both the minimum age and to***co smoking packs per year for patients to qualify for Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LCDT) screening. By expanding eligibility, more patients will be able to receive this life-saving screening before it’s too late. Cathy Hogan, a Nurse Practitioner and To***co Treatment Specialist at Duke Health, discusses how critical this new expansion is for reducing health disparities in lung cancer diagnosis. Visit https://www.dukeunctts.com/post/cms-releases-new-national-guidelines-for-lung-cancer-screening to learn more.

Today (November 18th) is the Great American Smokeout! We understand that cutting down or quitting smoking is hard. We can help make it easier. Join us and thousands of people who smoke today and make a plan to decrease or quit smoking! What happens when you quit smoking:

• 8 hours after quitting: the carbon monoxide (poisonous gas from smoke) level in your blood drops to normal
• 24 hours after quitting: your chance of heart attack decreases
• 2 weeks to 3 months after quitting: your lung function increases up to 30%
• 1 month after quitting: you will have saved $180 (average savings if you previously smoked 1 pack per day)
• 1 to 9 months after quitting: your coughing, sinus congestion, tiredness, and shortness of breath decreases

Commit to a healthier (& wealthier!) future for yourself and your loved ones! You set the goals and timeline; we provide expert coaching, behavior change counseling, and medication recommendations to make your health goals reachable.
