It’s that time of year! All the spring wild edibles are popping 💞 Come join me for *Plant Guild* tomorrow at the Piedmont Wildlife Center from 6-8pm. Plant Guild is a sweet little community of folks who love to talk about all things wild & weedy. Many of you know that 2018 was my first official year branching out and beginning to teach classes, and I just wanna say: you all really blew me away. Seriously. Thank you everyone for showing up at my workshops, believing in me, and showering me with praise and encouragement- it meant the world to me. And just so you know- I'm coming out swinging in 2019. Natural Dyeing Workshop from 1-4pm this Saturday at the Piedmont Wildlife Center. Come discover how plants can be used to dye wool, silk, yarn, and cotton. We’ll talk about different ways to extract color from plants, what mordants are and how to use them to fix color, and some of my favorite plants to use for dyeing projects! I’ve been saving and drying plants all year for us to experiment with in this workshop so I’m especially excited ✨ Everyone will come away with their own naturally dyed handkerchief. Friends. I am teeming with excitement to share with you the birth of Asheville’s newest herb school { dwelling }, where you can find ~yours truly~ teaching next spring!!

The only thing I’m celebrating today are these odd balls.
// SWEET GUM \\ Friend or foe?
Liquidambar styraciflua, also known as Hazel Pine, Alligatorwood, and Satin-walnut 😂 This tree has a reputation for being a bit of a pain in the ass. My god the amount of hatred ppl have for this tree is insanity!! Seriously- everytime I google sweetgum I find a new noteworthy and laughable critique of this tree.
But it’s one of my all time favorites 💚 many a good memory has been shared under a sweet gum tree. And try crushing & whiffing a few fresh leaves under your nose- the smell is heavenly. Not to mention a potent medicine! These odd balls are getting tinctured this evening.

When I don’t have words, when all I have is grief and rage, I paint and sing. I call the DOJ and my reps. I show up at the rallies. I cast spells light candles pray cry and can’t sleep. It just doesn’t feel like enough. I mean what is going to take to end prisons? To keep brown babies in their parents arms? It feels so hard to hear the breathing of the other world I believe is possible. And yet here we are. I’m alive and so are you. So I’m going to keep breathing into that world and just work harder love bigger be free-er get fiercer ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
And witches, if you’re not using your magic to tear down prison walls and break the spell of capitalism and smash white supremacy, you need to work harder too. I mean what is magic for?
