🌙⏰ Understanding Your Body’s Internal Clock ⏰🌙

Ever wondered why you wake up at odd hours during the night? Your body might be trying to tell you something! According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), different organs have peak activity times, each linked to specific emotions and bodily functions. Here’s a glimpse into the nocturnal rhythm:

3 a.m. – 5 a.m. 🫁 LUNG: This is prime time for your lungs, associated with processing grief. If you find yourself awake, it might be your body’s way of dealing with emotional turmoil. Take this as a cue to rest and nurture your lungs.

5 a.m. – 7 a.m. 🌀 LARGE INTESTINE: Time to let go! Your large intestine peaks, making it easier for a morning bowel movement. Embrace this natural rhythm and allow your body to release what it no longer needs.

11 p.m. – 1 a.m. 🍃 GALL BLADDER: As you drift into deep sleep, your gall bladder kicks into gear, aiding in fat digestion. Discomfort at this time could signal trouble processing fatty foods. Let your gall bladder work its magic undisturbed.

1 a.m. – 3 a.m. 🌿 LIVER: The liver’s reign! It detoxifies the blood and regulates energy flow. Interrupted sleep during this period might be linked to unresolved anger or frustration. Give your liver the downtime it needs for optimal function.

Understanding these nocturnal patterns can offer insights into your overall well-being. Listen to your body’s whispers in the silence of the night. 🌙✨

The herb material used in moxabustion is mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris, Ai Ye) an invasive w**d, which grows in many climates, including North Carolina. Mugwort has a long history of use. It is believed that the Romans planted mugwort by roadsides to make it available to travelers to put in their shoes to relieve aching feet and protect them from exhaustion. Maybe this is because of its ability to enhance the movement of qi and blood.

Mugwort is used because of its acrid, spicy odor which makes it able to travel through all of the meridians at a deep level as well as regulate qi and blood, and expel cold. One of mugwort’s active components, borneol, is commonly used in topical therapies for its analgesic effects.

It is such a great and therapeutic modality in Chinese Medicine and we look forward to sharing it with you!

Moxibustion can be used to prevent diseases and maintain health as part of tonification treatments to help strengthen the organs and immune system. It warms the meridians and expels cold. It can be used to promote circulation over areas of chronic pain or muscle tension. It is especially used for pain that is worse with exposure to cold or damp weather, as with some types of arthritis pain. When moxa is applied to acupuncture points it strengthens and lifts energy. Moxibustion can boost the immune system and help with fatigue, digestive issues, and much more. *Join us on Sunday 1/21/24 at 12:00pm  for a course in moxibustion. The cost is $150 per couple or $100 per person. We encourage you to bring a partner so each couple can work on eachother.
