Important update - visitor restrictions.
Effective Jan. 6: Temporary Visitor Restrictions & Masking Guidance
To help protect our community during the rise in respiratory illnesses like flu and RSV, we’re implementing the following measures starting Monday, Jan. 6, at 7 a.m. across all UNC Hospitals and UNC Faculty Physicians inpatient locations:
Visitor Restrictions:
• Visitors 11 years old and younger are not allowed in inpatient areas or waiting rooms.
• Visitors with cold, flu, or other respiratory symptoms are also restricted.
• Healthy visitors of any age are welcome in lobbies, cafes and non-patient areas.
• Exceptions may be made for children under 11 in critical or exceptional circumstances with hospital unit leadership approval. Special visiting privileges will be considered in cases such as visiting terminal care patients, critical care situations and urgent admissions.
Masking Requirements:
Staff in these areas must wear masks while providing patient care:
• Emergency Departments
• Adult & Pediatric ICUs
• Stepdown Units
• Oncology Units
Masks are strongly encouraged for patients and visitors in these units.
Our infection prevention team is monitoring the situation closely and will adjust these measures as needed to keep everyone safe.
