The mental health field lost a titan today. Edna Foa’s impact on our understanding and treatment of anxiety and OCD cannot be overstated. She was pivotal in developing Exposure and Response Prevention as we know it today. And if that weren’t enough, she went on to develop Prolonged Exposure, the gold standard in evidence-based treatment for PTSD. Our field, and the countless individuals whose lives have been touched by her treatments, are deeply in her debt. We’re sending our thoughts to her family and the many friends and colleagues feeling Edna’s loss today.

We’ve overhauled and updated our on-demand training options! These are mostly foundational trainings focused on OCD: diagnosis, assessment, case conceptualization, treatment planning, ERP implementation, etc. The trainings are all available on-demand and are approved for CEs by ASWB and NBCC. Please reach out if you have any questions or if we can help with any of your training needs!

Ever wonder what the BCAOTC office looks like? Or how amateurish our video editing skills are? 😬 Take a look and answer both questions!

The BCAOTC office is located at 141 Providence Road in Eastowne - a small office park in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Even though “Bull City” refers to Durham (where we got our start!), we’re now just a stone’s throw over the border in Chapel Hill. If you have any questions about what to expect for your first visit, please don’t hesitate to give us a shout!

New Group Alert! This March we’re going to be starting a new group for moms with perinatal anxiety and OCD. This treatment group will be a dedicated space for women who are pregnant or navigating motherhood through the early childhood years. Participants will gain the practical tools and the supportive community needed to not just cope, but to truly thrive as a mother living with perinatal anxiety or OCD. You can find more info about the group on our website!

We have another cohort of our SPACE group starting in March! We were thrilled to see that our group in January filled up, so decided to offer another this spring. For anyone unfamiliar, SPACE stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions. It’s a parent-based treatment model designed to help parents learn tangible skills to better support their anxious kids, while also addressing unhelpful accommodations at home. Check out our website for more info or to register for the group!

BCAOTC is organizing a food drive! With SNAP benefits in jeopardy, our local food banks may be stretched thin. Help us care for our community and those at risk of going hungry by dropping off perishable items in the bin at the BCAOTC office. We’ll be collecting food throughout the month of November and donating to PORCH Chapel Hill/Carrboro, an organization that supplies over 15 food pantries and supports over 700 families experiencing food insecurity. Thanks for coming together to help us help our community!
