We’re thrilled to welcome Emily Juel, MA to the group! Emily is a third year Psychology graduate student at UNC-Chapel Hill and will be completing her practicum with us at BCAOTC! Emily comes to us already having some great experience, including supporting clinical trials for SPACE at the Yale Child Study Center. OCD Walk season is approaching in North Carolina! As always, is holding several walks throughout NC this fall: Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville, Wilmington, and Greensboro. The BCAOTC crew will be raising money to support and and will be walking in both the Raleigh (10/11) and Asheville (10/25) walks. You can participate by fundraising to support the OCD community or by just coming to hang out and be part of the walks. We hope you’ll join us!

We have lots of new groups starting this fall! We’re running our first SPACE group, an insomnia treatment group, a group for folks with food anxiety, and an old favorite, our self-compassion group for moms with OCD! And we’re also opening up a second section of our OCD Treatment Group at 5pm on Mondays to accommodate folks with later schedules. Check out the group page on our website to find details for all of the groups, including both our paid treatment groups and free support groups!

*New Group Alert* Travis has been eager to get an Insomnia Treatment Group running ever since joining BCAOTC. It’s happening this fall! If you have insomnia or if you just struggle with sleep, this group might be for you! The group will use strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), an evidence-based treatment for insomnia to help participate develop healthier habits and change their relationship to sleep. Check out our website to learn more about the group or to sign up. The group is virtual and open to folks in North Carolina.

Join us in welcoming Kristen Beatty, LCSW to the BCAOTC team! Kristen will be getting started in September after moving from St. Louis, where she worked at the Center for OCD and Anxiety Related Disorders. In addition to OCD and anxiety, Kristen is especially interested in the intersection of OCD and Eating Disorders, as well as perfectionism. We’re pumped to have Kristen joining the team - Welcome Kristen!

We’re excited to announce a new group this fall! Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) is an evidence-based treatment for anxiety and OCD developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center to help parents and caregivers of anxious kids learn how to more effectively support their children. SPACE is unique in that it’s a parent-based intervention, effectively treating a range of anxiety-related diagnoses solely by working with parents.

Our group will take place on Wednesdays, from 12-12:50 beginning October 1st and will take place over 8 sessions. It will be a virtual group, open to anyone in North Carolina. Please check out our website for more information or to register.

We’re getting excited for this week! Several members of the BCAOTC will be presenting at the IOCDF Annual OCD Conference in Chicago. Check out the schedule to see where to find us. When in doubt, you can always swing by our exhibitor booth to say hello and grab some sweet BCAOTC swag! And don’t forget, the conference will have a virtual track this year, so if you can’t make it to Chicago, you can watch from home!

We’re super excited to launch our Lunch & Learn Series! This is a monthly, virtual lecture for clinicians, tackling all sorts of OCD-related topics. It will take place on the first Thursday of each month, from 12-1pm ET. Each lecture will be eligible for 1 continuing education credit. Please join us in congratulating Carolyn - she completed her certification in Exposure & Response Prevention through CBI. Carolyn worked her butt off! Not only does the certification require in-depth training, but also months of follow-up consultation, demonstrating proficiency in core skills and treatment protocols. It’s no small accomplishment. Carolyn earned this one and we’re super proud of her!

We’re excited for our upcoming collaboration with dietitian Elysse Thebner Miller of The Emily Program! We’re going to be offering a virtual group for adults with ARFID, looking to build flexibility with eating. The group starts later this summer, but registration is open now.
