Nearly 40 million American adults are edentulous, and that number is not decreasing. For many of these patients, complete dentures do not provide the quality of life that they desire. Consequently, the demand for an implant-assisted solution is growing exponentially. With innovations in treatment planning, dental materials, and restorative workflows, complete arch implant prosthetics are more accessible than ever before. This lecture based and hands-on program will walk through treatment planning, immediate and delayed loading protocols, and current material options.

This program will award up to 7.0 hours of credit. ✔

Our Story

The UNC-CH Adams School of Dentistry offers a three-year postdoctoral program in prosthodontics leading to a Master of Science degree and certificate in prosthodontics. The program is approved and accredited by the Council on Education of the American Dental Association.

The program is enriched by comprehensive planning and treatment involving full mouth rehabilitation, treatment of edentulism, and rehabilitation of the worn dentition. Contemporary esthetic materials and dental implant therapy are emphasized. Particular attention is paid to syndrome patients and individuals with acquired dental defects. The postdoctoral program in prosthodontics also provides care for a large number of maxillofacial patients.

In addition, it hosts two dental implant fellowship programs for fellowship-level clinical education. This busy clinical activity is supported by a clinical center that opened in 2007 and includes 12 operatories, two additional implant therapy operatories, a large dental laboratory, resident office space and a patient reception area. The clinic operates by using an electronic patient record, digital radiography and volumetric imaging as well as digital photography requirements. Specified computers and digital cameras are required of every resident.
