📱 Is “text neck” really the problem?
New research says… maybe not.

A 12-month longitudinal study followed adults with no neck pain and tracked their smartphone posture, lifestyle habits, and health outcomes.

👉 Key finding:
❌ Forward head posture while using a phone did NOT predict neck pain.

What did matter?
✔️ Poor sleep quality
✔️ Low physical activity levels

🧠 Translation:
Neck pain is rarely caused by one posture. It’s influenced by how well you sleep, how much you move, and how your body adapts over time.

This challenges the fear-based idea that looking down at your phone is “damaging” your neck. Our bodies are adaptable, not fragile.

💡 Clinical takeaway:
Instead of obsessing over “perfect posture,” focus on:
• Moving more
• Sleeping better
• Building strength and capacity
• Reducing fear around normal movement

That’s how we create long-term neck health.

Research shows that when pain becomes chronic, it can change how your nervous system responds to movement, even during something as simple as walking. 🚶‍♀️

🧠 Our nervous system is supposed to “gear up” when we move — helping with balance, coordination, and effort.
📉 In people with long-standing pain, this response can become underactive, meaning the body doesn’t prepare for movement the same way.

What does this mean for you? 👇
✨ Movement may feel harder than it should
✨ Fatigue can show up faster
✨ Strength or fitness plateaus may happen despite effort
✨ “Pushing through” pain may not always be the answer

🏋️‍♀️ For the fitness community:
Progress isn’t just about reps and load — it’s about how well your brain and nervous system support movement. Smart training respects recovery, regulation, and quality of motion.

🤍 For people living with pain:
Your symptoms are real. If movement feels difficult, it doesn’t mean you’re weak — it means your system needs the right input, not more force.

📌 Takeaway:
Training and rehab should work with the nervous system, not against it. The right approach can help restore confidence, control, and performance — one step at a time.

❄️ NY got snow… but should your injury get ICE? 🧊😄

Yesterday NYC turned into a winter wonderland ❄️☃️
But when it comes to injuries, more ice isn’t always the vibe.

For years we were told: injury = ICE
New research says: not so fast…

🧠 What the science is telling us:
• Ice = 👍 short-term pain relief
• Ice ≠ proven faster healing
• Too much icing may actually slow down recovery
• Your body’s natural inflammation is part of the healing magic ✨

👉 So yes, ice can be helpful early on for pain
🚫 But chronic icing? Proceed with caution ❄️😬

With all this snow outside, it felt like the perfect time to rethink what we do inside our bodies after injury.

📖 I break it all down (science + practical takeaways) in my latest blog

Because recovery should be smart, intentional, and evidence-based — not just following old rules.

🚨 New publication alert! 🚀 We’re excited to share that our latest article has just been published in Frontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences: “Advancing first-contact, primary care physiotherapist practice: the value of integrating point-of-care diagnostic tools”. 🔬👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

In it, we argue that enabling physiotherapists to use electrodiagnostic testing (EDX) and ultrasound imaging (USI) — with proper training and credentialing — can improve timely, cost-effective, and accessible diagnoses, especially in underserved areas. 🌍💙 This could help expand access to primary-care physiotherapy globally and strengthen the role of physios as front-line providers.
