🎅🗂️ Mid-Year Magic at FirstLight! 🗂️🎅

We had a very special visitor drop by the office this week — none other than Santa Claus himself! 🎄✨

On a surprise mid-year mission, Santa stopped in to meet with our amazing FirstLight office team for a little Nice List review. He wanted to make sure everything behind the scenes is running smoothly to support the true holiday heroes — our incredible caregivers. 💼➡️💖

After a quick chat Santa gave us two mitten-clad thumbs up! 👍🎅

He’ll be keeping a close eye, but for now, we’re happy to report: FirstLight is still firmly on the Nice List — thanks to the heart, dedication, and teamwork that happens every day. 💫

🌟 We had a great time this past week at the Live Well Festival, sponsored by the Geauga County Board of Mental Health and Recovery Services in partnership with the Geauga County Su***de Prevention Coalition!

This wonderful resource fair focused on adults 50+ and their caregivers, offering valuable information, support, and a chance to connect with others in the community. It was great to see some familiar faces and network with so many dedicated partners 💚

One of our favorite moments? Enjoying the lively tunes from the Chardon Polka Band—they always bring such great energy! 🎶🎺

If anyone is needing any help for tax assistance

Tax assistance will again be available to Geauga County seniors, sixty (60) years of age and older, at the Geauga County Department on Aging, located at 12611 Ravenwood Dr Suite 200, in Chardon.
The Geauga Department on Aging will begin accepting appointment calls on February 3rd, 2025, at 440-279-2130.

The Geauga Department on Aging will offer this free service by appointment only, from early February through Friday, April 11th. Tax assistance will be available from IRS trained and certified volunteers. Tax preparers will be using the electronic E-filing method.

Attached is information regarding what tax services our volunteers are able to offer as well as the information needed for tax appointments.

Here are a few of our top tips to get the discussion started:
1. Have the conversation in an environment that’s comfortable for your loved one.
2. Use I statements to share what you’ve noticed and why you believe home care can help.
3. Ask open-ended questions to learn about their perspective.
4. Be empathetic. Validate their feelings so your loved one feels heard.
5. Address their concerns. Show you’re committed to ensuring their needs are met.
