Kim Durst, PT, DPT, was recently featured in Healthlinks Magazine's article titled: Flexibility is Underrated. Here's an excerpt: Durst emphasizes to her patients that working on flexibility will have a huge impact on their health. “It’s never too late to slow down the loss of flexibility,” she noted. “Wherever you are, work to keep what you have. Although you might gain some function, it is way easier to keep the flexibility you have, than gain it back.”

Part 2 of "Aging Gracefully" by Laura Christiansen, MS, PT, OMT-C:
Get Active! Aging Gracefully means defending yourself against the demands of gravity. As we age, we lost 2-3% of our muscle mass each year. Strength training is important to provide your frame with good muscular support as well as bone health. Want to learn more? Schedule your appointment with one of our experienced physical therapists today! 843-572-2663.

Laura Christiansen, MS, PT, OMT-C, from our Summerville location, has the best advice for Aging Gracefully. Her first recommendation is to Stand Up! She says that when we are static (not moving) we tend to hang on our ligaments with poor posturing. She is a wealth of knowledge to help you "get active and stay active at any age"! Schedule your appointment with Laura or any of our other experienced and compassionate physical therapists by calling 843-572-2663.

"I have been practicing for over 34 years and have seen many changes in this field. Manual care has become more of a tool therapists are using to improve quality of life and restore mobility. Our care involves both progressive strengthening and stretching along with manual care. This sets us apart from every other health care provider. Axis Hand & Physical Therapy is run by caring physicians and a group of patient centered therapists. I feel our therapy centers stand apart and it is confirmed by what patients tell me daily."

We are so thankful for Laura and her wealth of knowledge and experience!

Axis Hand and Physical Therapy of Moncks Corner would like to spotlight an inspiring local athlete and patient! Mason Salisbury is a Senior and catcher for Berkeley High School's baseball team, who overcame a knee injury with the help of Erin Welch, PT, DPT, during his Junior season. Erin enjoyed working with Mason and stated: "Mason did everything that he needed to do to get himself back on the field. It was a pleasure to work with such a talented, well rounded and charismatic athlete! I know he will be successful in the future with baseball and life!"

When asked what his favorite part of PT was, Mason said: "Knowing I wasn’t alone during rehab. Every day I walked in the building, it felt like one big family working toward getting me back to my full strength. My advice for other injured athletes is to always be honest with yourself about how your body feels. Only you truly know your pain and limits."

Mason's coach Landy Cox had this to say about the impressive athlete: "Mason is one of the most 'all around' student/athletes I have ever coached. He supports all the athletic teams and encourages others to support them. He is a leader on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. He is a team first player who is willing to do whatever it takes to win. It's always great when one of your best players is one of your hardest workers."

When he's not on the field, Mason is the President of Berkeley High School’s Beta club, Vice President of the National Honor Society, Student Government Association’s student body Historian, and Member of Future Business Leaders of America.

After high school, Mason plans to attend Lander University where he will be a part of their dual enrollment program with Clemson for a Mathematics and Engineering degree while continuing to play baseball. We wish him the best of luck in his endeavors!
