This past weekend some of our senior residents attended the Alcon cataract course in Fort Worth, TX. It was an amazing jam-packed two days of lectures, panels, video symposiums, wet lab skills, demonstrations and connecting with other residents from around the country!

A big shoutout to for hosting and for holding down the fort for the seniors!

It’s the end of an era! We’re all still recovering from the graduation festivities of last week. A huge congratulations to our senior class for finishing their ophthalmology residency. We also celebrated the graduation of our research and clinical fellows - Hugo, Munjal (cornea), Nallely and Abdel (peds).

Best of luck to Bryce for pursuing a peds fellowship in Chicago, Mercy for moving across the country to Sacramento for comp, and Sarah going to up to Erie, PA for comp! We’re so lucky that Ethan gets to stay on as faculty for trauma chief.

To our fellows, thank you for teaching us and enriching our lives this year! Hugo will be going back to Brazil and Munjal is heading back home to Orlando. We are so lucky to have Nallely and Abdel stay on one more year as our peds fellow and glaucoma fellow!

The celebratory festivities have begun! Yesterday, we had our senior roast with all the staff at Chuck Dawley, one of our ambulatory surgery centers. Our senior residents and fellows got lovingly roasted as they go on in their future endeavors!

Another year wrapped at Kiawah!! A huge congratulations to the senior residence for completing their final research presentations! Thank you to for having the MUSC Storm Eye residents present their research project every year.

Kiawah is our only mandatory research requirement for residents. Presentations are generally 5 minutes long and can range from case series, to quality improvement projects to retrospective studies. This conference is also a great opportunity to learn from various keynote speakers and enjoy a nice weekend away at Kiawah Island!

Another successful Fight for Sight clinic at Harvest Free Clinic! Fight for Sight is a medical student led organization that conducts eye screening examinations for the underserved community of Charleston. Today, we saw a total of 15 patients with a wide variety of pathology including dry eye, pterygiums, glaucoma, cataracts, nonproliferative and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. We made an urgent referral to retina specialists for a patient with new vitreous hemorrhage in the setting of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. A big thanks to our medical students and Dr. Smith at the Harvest Free clinic!
