We're grateful to share that Charleston Medicine and Behavioral Health recently came together as a team to support families in our community facing food insecurity. When we learned that federal food assistance programs were at risk, we wanted to get involved.
Our team prepared and distributed complete Thanksgiving dinners for 50 families. Each meal was designed to feed four people with plenty for leftovers, including a whole turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. We set up in our parking lot so families could pick up their meals with dignity and ease. For those unable to reach us, compassionate community members stepped up and delivered meals directly to their doors.
This effort would not have been possible without the generous support of Food Lion, who offered us a meaningful discount so our resources could stretch further and reach more families in need.
This reflected what we believe in: that healthcare is about more than treating illness. It's about caring for the whole person and the whole community. We're proud of our team for stepping up, grateful to Food Lion for partnering with us, and deeply moved by the families we were able to serve.
If you or someone you know needs assistance accessing food resources, please reach out. We're here to support our community.
