This 3-hour live workshop is part of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers Community Connections. In this workshop we will explore:

--- What is “in-session experiencing,”
--- Why it is clinically relevant, and
--- How to evoke it from the client in an MI consistent way

This workshop draws on references and research cited by Miller and Rollnick, MI 4, (p 181):

“There is strong evidence that in-session experiencing
predicts better treatment outcomes …”

And by Miller and Moyers, Effective Therapists (p 108):

“Experiencing and change talk are two types of client speech
that can be evoked by therapist responses,
and are associated with better treatment outcomes.”

About the presenters

Sky Kershner and Marian Frick Rigsbee practice an integration of MI with Acceptance Commitment Therapy and Experiential/Somatic Dynamic Therapy. Bob Jope will be providing his MITI coding expertise to the work as a way to validate MI model consistency.
