Exciting news! Join us on Tuesday, August 12th from 7-8 pm ET for a special “Back to School” webinar focused on how to talk to teachers about hearing loss and classroom accommodations.

Featured speaker: Lexi will share a presentation she created for her middle school teachers and talk about how she approached these conversations in high school. Great opportunity to learn strategies for self advocacy in school settings, hear real life experiences from a student perspective, ask questions and sharing your own experiences.

We enjoyed spring day yesterday! ☀️ 🌺 😎 The kids made oreo dirt for a snack, rain makers for a craft, and learned all about the sounds of spring! Today, we wrapped up the week with a snowball fight and visit from author, Kallyn Long, and meteorologists David Williams and Sonya Stevens, and a surprise from Pelicans snowballs!! 🍧 We had the best week at Camp Communication and are so grateful for all of our campers, volunteers, and staff for making this a memorable one and changing what’s possible!

We built snowmen out of marshmallows, painted “I love you” ornaments, completed balance activities, and learned all about the sounds of winter!

The week we have all anxiously been waiting for is FINALLY “HEAR!” Camp Communication started the summer day kickoff yesterday by making paper clip fish, fruit kabobs for snacks, relays outside, and learning all about things summer and sounds of the season. Today was Fall Day and us getting creative and crafty with pool noodle monsters, building our own pies, learning all things fall and sounds of the season! Look at our amazing campers thriving and having fun together 👂🏼🤗☀️🍁

Patient Spotlight 🌟James Howe🌟

James and his two classmates selected MUSC Cochlear Implant Program for their 8th grade service project. They raised funds for our program by hosting a basketball clinic for all the students at their school. They had a great turnout and a lot of fun! These young men also spent time at MUSC helping to pack bags for our annual Cochlear Implant Picnic. They presented their service project at school for all parents and students, it was a great way to raise awareness for all the hard work and research that MUSC ENT/Audiology continue to do for those with hearing loss. A huge and heartfelt thank you to James and his classmates for thinking of us and giving back to our clinic! You are helping and we are grateful!

✨ Dr Leyzac highlighted a recent publication that showed auditory nerve synchrony predicts speech understanding in adult CI users

✨Dr Dixon reviewed Medicare data to better evaluate the CI referral process

✨Lauren McCray discussed barriers to implementating telehealth in CI care

Summer will be here before we know it! Check out Camp WonderHands at Camp Cole, overnight camp from June 16th to June 20th for children whom are deaf and hard of hearing. It is free of cost to the campers! It can be any SC child aged 7-17 to attend camp.
