“I needed to lose weight to get my health in check. I am 34 and have high blood pressure and a fatty liver, so the gastric sleeve was a great option for me! My experience was great because everyone at MUSC-Lancaster was phenomenal! They were kind and caring and made me feel comfortable from the time I arrived until the time I left. Everyone, including the doctor and nurse anesthetist, came and checked on me after my surgery! Anything I needed during my stay, the 7th floor crew made sure I had. They were the BEST!” — Brandan Craig

We’re proud of patients like Brandan who trust MUSC Health to support their weight loss and overall health goals.

Quitting va**ng is tough, and right now, there are no FDA-approved medications to help. But researchers at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center are leading a national study to change that.

Benjamin Toll, Ph.D., director of the MUSC Health To***co Treatment Program, is testing whether varenicline (formerly known as Chantix) could become the first approved medication for va**ng cessation.

“We want to give people who are struggling with va**ng a path forward,” Toll said.

When Mimi Cappello was diagnosed with keratoconus, a progressive eye disease, her vision was getting worse fast. At just 12 years old, she became the first child in South Carolina to undergo corneal crosslinking under general anesthesia at MUSC Health Storm Eye Institute.

This innovative approach, led by pediatric cornea specialist Larissa Gouvea, M.D., stopped the disease from progressing and gave Mimi her vision and her future in lacrosse back.

Every child deserves the chance to see clearly. Learn more about pediatric eye care at MUSC Health.

Our heart team at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Downtown just reached an exciting milestone! They’re the first in the Midlands to use new technology that helps treat heart rhythm disorders with even more precision: the Medtronic Affera 3D Mapping System and Sphere-9™ Catheter!

This innovation gives our doctors more options to personalize care and deliver the best outcomes for our Midlands patients.

We’re proud of our team for leading the way in advanced heart care across South Carolina.

Farin is a hero! Thanks for sharing this beautiful MUSC Health story, Sharing Hope SC!

On Women’s Equality Day, celebrating women who give hope — like Farin, a living kidney donor from South Carolina whose selfless decision saved a life.

Women make up nearly 60% of living organ donors in our state, yet they account for less than 40% of deceased donors. Nearly 700 women in South Carolina are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

By talking with loved ones about your decision to donate, you can help close this gap and ensure more lives are saved.
