Jeanne Kay Juhos, 82 of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Born on January 2, 1943, in Attica, OH, Jeanne was a daughter of the late, Gertrude Ella (Hepner) Filiere and Cloyce Kenneth Filiere.

Jeanne was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. She took pride in her career as a teacher, artist, poet, photographer, theatre enthusiast, and animal lover. She was an artist at the Charleston Artist Guild and an active member at the local writing circle. Jeanne published multiple books and poems, further spreading her pure kindness and love for nature to all ages. As a child, Jeanne was known for climbing trees and communing with the birds. Jeanne loved to sing and dance around her family and will always be remembered smiling and joyous.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, Cloyce Kenneth and Gertrude Ella Filiere; husband, Joseph Juhos; sister, Talitha Camiscione.

Jeanne is survived by her two sisters, Cheryl Ridley and Joyce Enders; daughter, Erene Mpougas; two sons, Mark Stetler and Jeff Stetler; and 7 grandchildren.

The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation - Mount Pleasant, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC. Inurnment will follow at 12:00pm at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29465.

Carmen Rosa "Cuqui" Yost

Carmen Rosa "Cuqui" Yost, 92 of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Born on December 6, 1932, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Cuqui was the daughter of the late Amparo Ortega (Velez) Loperena and Antonio Loperena.

Cuqui was a young academic who sailed through school and received her high school diploma at the age of 15. Cuqui worked her way through college to lovingly contribute to her mother and sister and received her engineering degree. She was also an artist and displayed her talents in various ways, putting her personal touch to gifts given, certificates presented and was able to create her in-laws headstone, in Olde English Lettering, which was sandblasted on their headstone.

Cuqui’s greatest accomplishment were her three children and all that they brought to her life. Our mom was the light of our lives and everyone she met. She shared her Christian beliefs, offered prayers, lit candles and held steadfast until her prayers were answered.

Cuqui is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Amparo Loperena; sister, Eden Alba Loperena Ortega and grandson, Zachary William Yost.

She is survived by her sons, Robert Yost, Jr. and Duane W. Yost (Hilda) and her daughter, Eden Y. Daly. She also leaves behind her grandson, Cameron P. Yost (Chelsea), and granddaughters Shelby R. Daly, Shannon Y. McGinnis (Alex) and Ashley M. Yost. She was blessed to be called Mela by her great grandson, Cooper Zachary Yost.

The funeral service will take place at 10:00am on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, 347 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Charleston “Agape”.

Leo Kruger, 76 of Huger, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Born on October 14, 1948, in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Mary Kruger (Garite) and Charles Kruger.

Our father, Leo Kruger, left us on September 3rd, 2025, a day that will forever be marked by his absence. He was the kindest soul, a gentle and giving man who worked tirelessly for his family. Dad taught us the value of hard work, honesty, and faith, always leading by example with strength, courage and integrity.

Leo honored his country and enlisted in the United States Army. He was awarded with two purple hearts after his tour in Vietnam.

Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Kruger; brother, Charles Kruger; and sisters, Doris Kruger and Evelyn Kruger

Leo is survived by his wife of 54 years, Denise Kruger; daughter, Donna Simmons and husband, William; sons, Robert Kruger and Thomas Kruger; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Anna Wright.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.

Ursula "Ulli" Anna Palmer

Ursula "Ulli" Anna Palmer, 70, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Born on July 4, 1955, in Germany, Ursula was the daughter of the late Waltrud Geiger Fehr and the late Rudolf Fehr.

Every year Ulli traveled back to Germany to her family and friends; she was proud of her roots. She also loved the lowcountry, especially Edisto Beach and Folly Beach. She found places like Botany Bay and Caw Caw Park, where she could explore. She was adventurous and earthy, and loved a good bottle of wine and a simple meal cooked just right. Her favorite German meal was Handkäs mit Musik (Hand Cheese with Music).

Ulli worked for years with Mark Morris at Hairs Best and always sported a pretty haircut. She worked at MUSC and Shadowmoss, and was always around a crowd of friends.

For thirty years she helped Jamie Westendorff in the catering business and considered his family as her family, never missing a Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year's Day.

She got great joy from her plants and cats. Loyal and unique best describe Ulli.

Ulli is survived by her brother, Harald Fehr (Christiane Gehle-Fehr); nephews, Nicolas Fehr and Julian Fehr.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley.

Katie Rose Taylor, 49 of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Born on March 23, 1976 in Bemidji, Minnesota, she was a daughter of Carol Mestrovich and the late Kenneth Hanson.

Katie moved from her hometown to South Carolina during her teenage years, where she later graduated. In her younger days, she enjoyed shooting pool and was a proud member of the America Poolplayers Association. She also worked as a bartender and was loved by everyone who knew her.

At 32, Katie welcomed her daughter, Samantha Taylor, on May 14, 2008. Later that year, on December 20, 2008, she married Robert Taylor.

Some of Katie's favorite pastimes included having long phone conversations with her mom, watching cooking shows, enjoying activities with her daughter, and spending time with her beloved pets, even if she often joked about them being "annoying."

Katie may not have been fond of many people, but those she loved, loved her deeply in return.

Katie is survived by her husband, Robert Taylor; mother, Carol Mestrovich; and daughter, Samantha Taylor.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation in Goose Creek with a Memorial Service immediately following at 3:00 PM.

Richard Michael Dohaney, 71, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025.

Born on August 14, 1954 in Dearborn, Michigan, he was the son of the late Mary Anne MacIntosh Gunn and Edward Dohaney.

Richard proudly dedicated twenty-two years to serving in the United States Navy as a submariner, retiring with the rank of Senior Chief. After his military service, he transitioned into a successful role as a Network Engineer. Rick had a passion for adventure and the outdoors, and he could often be found whitewater kayaking, surfing, hiking, or mountain biking in his free time.

Richard is survived by his daughters: Bridget Dohaney and Talina Davis; son, Brendan Dohaney, and Grandchildren: Fhaonna Dohaney, Stanley Moore, Balian Moore, and Eliza Moore.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Whitewater.
