Back in the summer, we hosted a pickleball tournament in support of our wonderful friends at Low country Wheelchair Sports! 🦽🦿They provide opportunities for those who use adaptive equipment to participate in recreational sports! This week, we presented them with a check for all the proceeds from this event. We are so grateful for their participation, determination, and perspective on life! Thank you 🥒🎾🏓

We want to recognize a few of our students who volunteered at the Seabrook Fleming Open with Dr. Stagliano and Dr. McPhail this weekend, where they were able to provide PT services to participants under their professors guidance! 🤝

In case you didn’t know, The Fleming open has been named South Carolina Adult Tournament of the Year, the Fleming Open is a National Level-3/ITF Tournament, hosting age groups from 30-80, and a USTA National Level-1/ITF Mixed Doubles Tournament with teams of ranging ages 40-80. It is in its 41st year, and is held on Seabrook Island, in South Carolina. This event attracts over 340 senior tennis players from more than 26 states coming together to compete in the annual event. They have also added International participants from several countries! 🎾

This tournament is a great way to encourage physical activity and promote health and wellness in the Charleston community. We are always grateful for the opportunity to serve others! 💛

✨PT Month spotlight ✨

This month we want to highlight our amazing faculty that make it all possible at CSU DPT. Each of our professors plays an integral role in preparing our students with the knowledge and skills they need for clinical practice. We couldn’t do it without them! So without further ado, let’s kick it off with our first two!

Dr. Janet Tankersley, PT, DPT, PhD, PCS, is our Program Chair and a Board Certified Pediatric Specialist. She’s the face of our program and is involved in teaching our Special Populations: Pediatrics course! 🚼

Dr. Amanda Feller, PT, DPT, NCS is our program Clinical Director and lover of Neurologic PT. She works endlessly to provide our students with incredible clinical experiences to prepare for their careers after the boards. She also teaches our Neuroanatomy course, and assists in arranging our Integrated Clinical Experience rotations! 🧠

We are so excited to be celebrating all month long! Our students and faculty work extremely hard and we want to recognize their determination, passion, and skill this month. And of course, we want to recognize all physical therapists for the work they do and the service they provide! Happy PT month! 🤩🩵 and a special thank you to our dear friend Elizabeth over at for making us a wonderful banner to display in our building!

We are so honored to have recently hosted some wonderful guest lecturers for our 2nd years Neuromuscular II course this fall. Our guests showed up to discuss all topics relating to their ALS diagnosis! As future physical therapists, our students had so much to learn from these amazing individuals and their experience with ALS.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS, is a degenerative neuromuscular disease that currently has no cure. With a prognosis of 2-5 years, this can be disheartening for many with this diagnosis.

However, this group of amazing people share how they are not defined by a disease, but by who the Lord says they are. Their mission is to bring awareness to ALS and raise funds for research to find a cure. Their stories are inspiring and we encourage everyone to check out to learn more! Below are some of our favorite quotes that demonstrate the strong mentality our speakers have:

“Some people see ALS as meaning ‘A life sentence’. For me ALS means ‘a life of serving’.”

“Whenever I visit the doctor and they ask me about my directives I tell them I’m not here to talk about dying, I’m talking about living!”

We cannot thank our friends enough for coming to speak to us and showing their resilience in the face of hardship! ❤️🧠💪

On the 25th at 12:00 pm, join us for an afternoon of friendly competition! Go solo or come in a duo and put your skills to the test to see who will come out on top! 💪 Here are the details:

- Cost to play is $10 per individual and $20 per team 🤝
- Winners will receive a prize 🏆
- Proceeds will go to our friends over at WarriorWOD! An organization we love to support 🎖️

Did you know Charleston Southern DPT offers a clinical experience in ITALY? 🇮🇹 It is one of the many things that sets us apart as a program! We offer an immersive clinical rotation with our partners at Eduglobal Associates that allows 3rd year students to spend one of their three, 10 week rotations at one of their many sites located around Italy!

So what does this look experience look like? Kalle and Schuyler, two 3rd year students are taking us along for the ride with a day in their life in Gavinana, Italy! 💙
