The Southeastern WV AHEC is partnering with WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital, GEAR UP Southern West Virginia, and MCTEC and for two interactive days of health professions exploration for regional high school students.

As is coming to a close, here's one last reflection on Rural Community Health Scholars by Mason Cantwell. He earned his bachelor's degree in exercise physiology from WVU last year and became his family's first college graduate. He feels both inspired and prepared by the programs of and WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health to enter the medical field.

We're celebrating and ! Our Rural Community Health Scholars accepts 75 of the best health professions students from across the state into a two-year program. Scholars get an interdisciplinary look at rural healthcare through hands-on training and education. As Mark Ovesny puts it, there's no better way to truly understand a rural community.

Three students from Wood County high schools were selected to participate in the Moving Onward and Upward program (MOU) through a partnership with the Northern WV Area Health Education Center (NWVAHEC) and Camden Clark Medical Center. Students will shadow in various medical departments from February through June to learn about health careers. Students participating are Angelina Plaxco from Parkersburg High School and Elena Burns and Sydney McKee from Parkersburg South High School.
