In 2009 I started this little underground apparel co. called Redfish Mafia. In 2014, I won the first 1 man Elite Series event ever held. A couple of guys approached me and suggested we team up for the season. Share info, travel together, fish together, eat together etc. That year there were 6 of us, now there’s 9. We took up 15% of the field. And we won 68% of the money that season. It stirred the proverbial pot to say the least, a dozen or so wins and God only knows how many top 5’s and top 10’s later, with a few national championships thrown in, and here we sit, about to fish the first ever Redfish World Series. The top 48 teams in the country. Now there’s a rule that was created specifically because of our success as a team even though we were competing against each other. “No angler or team shall discuss any fishing information with any other fisherman other than their one teammate.” “The Redfish Mafia” is an entity that is hard to put into words. It is a brotherhood of anglers who approach a tournament as if it’s us against the fish, not us against each other. And it works! Good luck to all the teams over the next 4 days! HURRICANE RELIEF FUNDRAISER! The Bahamas is covered with floodwater after Hurricane Dorian’s torrential rain and strong winds devastated its shores for 2 days. At least seven people, including an 8-year-old boy, have lost their lives due to this horrific natural disaster. Authorities say that number will surely rise. Relief is on its way from one of our favorite non-profit organizations, Southeast Rescue and Relief. These guys, including our good friend Capt. Jamie Hough, are going to be out there night-and-day for the next few weeks performing search and rescue for trapped residents among other much-needed efforts. A huge congrats to everyone who made the cut to fish day 3 of the HT Check It Stick Team Open In Kemah Texas this weekend! Especially RFM Team Members Travis Land And T Paul Dufrene who stroked out a second place finish! Paul Dufrene Elite Redfish Series
