Menopause is associated with increased bone resorption, and estrogen therapy decreases bone resorption.

Hormone therapy PREVENTS bone loss and reduces fracture in healthy postmenopausal women.

It is FDA-approved for prevention of bone loss, but NOT for the TREATMENT of osteoporosis.

Estrogen therapy has antidepressant effects similar to that observed with antidepressant agents when administered to depressed PERIMENOPAUSAL women with or without
vasomotor symptoms.
There is a WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY for the effective use of estrogen therapy for the management of depressive disorders during the PERIMENOPAUSE.
Estrogen therapy alone is ineffective as a treatment for depressive disorders in POSTMENOPAUSAL women, however, it may augment clinical response to
antidepressants in midlife and older women, preferably when also indicated for other menopause symptoms such as vasomotor symptoms.

Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle mass related to aging. Interestingly, skeletal muscle has been shown to have estrogen receptors.
Sarcopenia and osteoporosis are related to aging, estrogen depletion, and the menopause transition.
Preclinical studies suggest a possible benefit of estrogen therapy WHEN COMBINED WITH EXERCISE to prevent the loss of muscle mass, strength, and performance.

In most circumstances, bleeding within 6 months of starting HRT is normal, however, you should ALWAYS report it to your physician promptly as it may be a sign of endometrial cancer.
Noncancerous causes of bleeding could be due to polyps, fibroids, or the genitourinary syndrome of the menopause.

If you have a uterus, you must take progesterone because chronic unopposed endometrial exposure to estrogen increases the risk for endometrial hyperplasia (excess growth) or cancer.
Oral micronized progesterone or a levonorgestrel-containing IUD may be used.
DOSE and DURATION are important to ensure adequate endometrial protection.
Compounded progesterone creams have not been adequately studied and may NOT be protective against uterine cancer.

Because hormone levels may fluctuate greatly in an individual woman, they are not a reliable indicator for diagnosing menopause. Menopause is a CLINICAL diagnosis based on the lack of menstrual periods for 12 months.
The North American Menopause Society does not recommend saliva testing to determine hormone levels and does not recommend custom-compounded products over well-tested, government-approved products for the majority of women.
The optimal hormone levels in postmenopausal women have not been established. How symptoms respond to a particular dose of hormones or non hormonal menopause medication is the only reliable guide.

The New York Times (8/19, Haridasani Gupta ) reported, “In an effort to attract and retain experienced women, some companies are adding menopause-specific care to their benefits packages.” The “benefits can include virtual access to the small pool of roughly 1,000 certified specialists in the country, who can be difficult to find locally, and coverage for often expensive hormone treatments that may not be included in some insurance plans.”

A low-dose birth control pill (preferably one with 10 - 20 mcg estradiol) can safely be used until age 55 years old as long as you have no contraindications to the birth control pill such as smoking, history of deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, active liver disease, etc.
You can use this for HRT as it will treat symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, night sweats, irregular me**es, bone loss, and/or vaginal dryness. The pill will reduce your incidence of ovarian and endometrial cancer but will lower your s*x drive.

Talk to Dr. Matsik about which individual therapy is best for you, HRT versus OCP.
