Vacancy Announcement - Program Coordinator—Health Education and Promotion

The Eastern Illinois University’s Health and Counseling Services is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Program Coordinator – Health Education and Promotion. This position will be responsible for the development and ex*****on of an institutional wide, comprehensive health promotion program. Duties of this position will include:

• Direct all components of the comprehensive health promotion/health education and prevention efforts within the Health and Counseling Services and the University community.
• Provide knowledge and guidance in areas relating to health education/promotion program planning, program evaluation/assessment, marketing/communications, advocacy, policy development, and community organizing/development.
• Provide professional knowledge in pertinent areas such as alcohol and other drugs, mental health, nutrition, sexual health, financial health, influenza and immunizations education, and general physical health and wellness.
• Oversee recruitment, training, and management of staff.
• Provide budgetary oversight for health/promotion/health education and prevention efforts.
• Serve as primary contact for University faculty and staff on issues concerning health promotion/health education and wellness efforts.
• Monitor, maintain and report the University’s compliance to Federal Safe and Drug Free Schools mandate and other Federal and State mandates.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in public health, Health Promotion, Health Education, Community Health or other related social/behavioral sciences.
• Minimum of two years of related professional experience, which may include graduate assistantship, internships, and/or practicum experiences (2000 hours = 1 year).
Preferred Requirements:
• Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH)

EIU Health and Counseling Services to Continue Serving Students -- Update

The EIU Health and Counseling Services Counseling Clinic remains open and providing services to students during the UPI Strike.

Some of EIU's Counseling Staff are UPI members who may choose to strike. Students whose counselors are striking will have their appointments canceled or transferred to other counselors until their counselors return. These students will be notified by phone or e-mail as soon as possible.

Students who see interns and temporary help counselors will continue to be seen as scheduled.

Crisis services continue to be available between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. M-F.

For after hours and weekends, students experiencing crises should follow the directions below:

If they are experiencing a mental health crisis, they should call the National Su***de Prevention Line at 988 or the LifeLinks toll free Crisis Line at 1-866-567-2400. .

If they have experienced a sexual assault they should contact SACIS Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Services toll free 24 hours at 1-888-345-2846.

Medical (Counseling) Social Associate Vacancy
Eastern Illinois University’s Health and Counseling Services—Counseling Clinic is seeking candidates for a Medical (Counseling)Social Associate. This position reports directly to the Associate Director for Counseling Services, who reports to the Executive Director, Health and Counseling Services

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social or behavioral science or a health science specialty from an accredited college or university and one (1) year (12 months) of progressively more responsible full-time experience in the practice of social services/agencies or medical/clinical setting maintaining acceptable standards of social work standards.

Responsibilities of the Medical Social Associate include: providing entry point access to individuals seeking counseling clinic services; screening and assessing students to determine appropriate level of care needed; assisting with providing immediate crisis intervention and response to students in need; scheduling appointments by phone; facilitating student intake process; coordinating services with internal providers and external services/programs; referring to other services and programs which can meet the students’ needs; counseling students on their services needs and providing guidance as necessary; performing simple procedures related to the care of students and clerical duties as needed; maintaining current case records; writing reports; collecting/maintaining information about community resources; entering and verifying data into the EMR system; scanning and maintaining client files for paperless charting system; maintaining data throughout the year for annual report and research for evaluation of services; creating templates, administering and maintaining the Medicat EMR application.

This is a permanent, full-time, 12-month. Benefits include: paid vacation, sick leave, health and life insurance, retirement program options, and tuition waivers. Rate of pay shall be commensurate with experience.

The Assistant Director for the Illinois Higher Education Center for Alcohol, Other Drug, and Violence Prevention will manage and coordinate grant objectives including plan, promote & implement continuing education opportunities (trainings, workshops, webinars, etc.); plan & coordinate quarterly affiliates meetings, prepare & deliver continuing education opportunities, evaluate/assess activities, oversee grant spending/budgets, develop/submit reports as required, provide technical assistance to affiliate members, and administer statewide collegiate substance use survey. This is a grant funded, temporary position which will end on June 30, 2023, with a possibility of continuation contingent on meeting grant objectives and available continued grant funding.

Required job qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in health education, psychology, sociology, or communications; preferred master’s degree in health education, psychology, sociology, communications, or college student affairs. Preferred experience in substance abuse prevention, preferably in a higher education setting; preferred certification as a Certified Health Education Specialist, Certified Alcohol and other Drug Preventionist/Counselor, or similar certification. Preparing examination rooms for daily use.
Collecting data and vitals to prepare patients for doctor visits.
Monitor stock; order supplies as needed.

-Walk-up testing will be conducted inside the Student Rec Center on Court 5. Enter at the northwest doors of the Rec Center (not the main Rec Center doors). Walk-up lines will be socially distanced.
-Drive-thru testing will be conducted outside the south end of the Fieldhouse. Cars are asked to enter the J Lot off Grant Avenue, follow the queue directions, travel south on the lane between the Fieldhouse and O’Brien Field, turn the corner heading east, and continue to the south entrance of the Fieldhouse. After testing, cars will continue east past Lantz Arena and exit onto Fourth Street.
