This Black History Month, LCVR proudly recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Black veterans who have served our nation with courage and resilience—often in the face of adversity. From the Buffalo Soldiers to the Tuskegee Airmen, from Vietnam to today, Black service members have defended freedom abroad while fighting for equality at home.

Their legacy is not just history; it’s a call to action. As we advance research and innovation for veterans’ health, we remain committed to ensuring that all who served receive the care, respect, and recognition they deserve.

Making history in Veteran care! Today, our Ralph H. Johnson VA Healthcare System hosted its first-ever Age-Friendly Summit, bringing together champions dedicated to revolutionizing health care for our older Veterans.
We are proud to be 1 of only 4 VA sites nationally selected for the prestigious Age-Friendly Collaborative with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement! Our team of passionate health care professionals came together to learn, strategize, and advance evidence-based care that puts our Veterans' priorities first.
Special thanks to our VA National Office speakers and our incredible Age-Friendly Champions for their commitment to transforming how we care for those who served.

We love our Dr. Broadway!

Dr. Jessica Broadway is a researcher at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Brain Health Institute! She is currently studying new medications to help veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia. One of these new medications may help to slow down Alzheimer’s disease when administered in the early stages while the other is used to treat agitation, which is a common behavioral symptom in people with moderate stages of Dementia. Dr. Broadway is inspired to pursue this work because she has seen first-hand through her clinical work how devastating the condition can be to patients and their family members. This work is critical in developing innovative treatments that can help our veterans have the best quality of life possible for them in every step of their treatment/healthcare journey with the VA.
