WDTV article tonight
I was diagnosed with cancer at age 2… and again at age 9.
Years of treatment, isolation, and long-term effects shaped my life in ways most people never see.
Today, I’m honored to be featured by WDTV sharing that journey—and why I created Walking Miracles Family Foundation.
This work is deeply personal.
For over a decade, I’ve supported childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer families across West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Western Pennsylvania through: • patient navigation
• survivorship education
• travel assistance
• Packages of Hope at diagnosis
Because cancer doesn’t end when treatment ends—and for many families, the hardest parts are never talked about.
That’s what I’m working to change.

If you are a hospital, health system, or organization working in oncology or survivorship, I welcome the opportunity to collaborate.

When I was 22 months old, my cancer journey began with leukemia.
Years later, I would face cancer again with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
What I have learned through survivorship — and through helping more than 800 families navigate childhood cancer — is that the moment of diagnosis is only the beginning of the journey.
The emotional impact, travel burdens, financial strain, and long-term survivorship challenges are often the unspoken cost of cancer.
That reality is what inspired the education program The Unspoken Cost of Cancer — to help families understand and navigate the full cancer journey from diagnosis and beyond.
If you or your family have faced cancer, what was something you wish you had known at the beginning?

Sometimes the biggest challenge families facing cancer encounter isn’t just the treatment — it’s getting to the care they need.
As someone who has lived through cancer and understands the barriers families face, I’m incredibly grateful for organizations like Flight East.
Angel Flight East provides free air transportation through volunteer pilots so patients can reach lifesaving medical care when distance becomes a barrier.
I had the privilege of personally using this service, and I know firsthand how meaningful this kind of support can be when families are already facing so much.
Partnerships and organizations like this remind us that when communities come together, we can help families navigate the cancer journey with a little more hope.
Thank you to the incredible team and volunteer pilots at Angel Flight East for the work you do to help patients reach the care they need. 💙

After helping more than 800 families navigate childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancer, there’s something I wish every family was told at the moment of diagnosis.
Cancer doesn’t just change the patient’s life.
It changes the entire family’s world.
Parents suddenly become medical researchers.
Schedules revolve around appointments.
Travel becomes routine.
And the emotional weight can be overwhelming.
Many families are not prepared for how much the journey will affect daily life — financially, emotionally, and long after treatment ends.
That’s one of the reasons Walking Miracles Family Foundation exists — to help families navigate those challenges through patient navigation, travel assistance, survivorship education, and support from diagnosis and beyond.
If your family has been impacted by cancer, what was the hardest part of the journey that nobody prepared you for?

you to Image Hair Clinic for supporting Walking Miracles and helping raise awareness for families navigating cancer.

Brett Wilson shares how Walking Miracles created two meaningful ways to give.

One donation supports the Package of Hope, and the other supports the jewelry collection, allowing supporters to impact different needs while serving more people.

Brett is energized by the possibilities of partnership, generosity, and how much good can be done when people come together to help.

Long treatment days can feel overwhelming.

For kids undergoing treatment, an iPad means connection, distraction, and comfort during the hardest hours.

And for the moms sitting beside them, it’s how they organize appointment details, communicate with doctors, manage schedules, and hold everything together.

Help us bring hope and practical support to children fighting cancer in West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania.

Can you imagine having to choose between buying groceries or buying the gas needed to get your child to chemotherapy? ⛽️🛒

For families in rural communities battling cancer, this choice is a terrifying reality. The treatments are long, and the drives are even longer.

A one-time gift helps today. But joining our Support Network ensures they can get there tomorrow, next week, and next month.

They need reliable partners in this fight. They need you.

Be the reason a family doesn't have to worry about how they will afford to reach the hospital.
