👟👣🥿👠👞🥾👢👡 👣👟

Did you know that many people are wearing shoes that are way too small for their feet? 😳 It's true! Proper shoe size is essential for your foot health, yet some overlook this critical detail. Wearing shoes that don't fit correctly can lead to a host of problems, including:
1. Blisters: Constant friction from tight shoes can cause painful blisters.
2. Corns and Calluses: These are your body’s way of protecting sore spots, but they can be uncomfortable and unsightly.
3. Bunions: Over time, improperly fitting shoes can lead to painful bunion formations.
4. Plantar Fasciitis: Ill-fitting shoes can strain your plantar fascia, leading to heel pain.
5. Ingrown Toenails: Tight shoes can push nails into the skin, causing pain and infection.
6. Foot Fatigue: When shoes are too small, your feet work harder, leading to fatigue and discomfort.

So, how often should you check your shoe size? It’s recommended to measure your feet every time you buy shoes, as sizes can change over time due to various factors such as age, weight changes, and pregnancy.

✨ Take care of your feet! Call Carolina Foot & Ankle Specialists to get the right fit or for any foot-related concerns you may have. Your feet deserve the best! 🌟

Heel Pain Stopping Your Young Athlete in Their Tracks? It Could Be Sever’s Disease.

Sever’s disease is a common condition that causes severe heel pain in growing kids, especially during sports seasons. It results from repetitive stress on the heel’s growth plate, leading to Achilles tendon tightness and inflammation.

Typically affecting 8-14 year olds, Sever’s is more common in boys. Symptoms include heel pain during/after activity, morning discomfort, swelling, and difficulty walking.

The good news? With proper treatment from a podiatrist, young athletes can overcome Sever’s and get back to doing what they love. Our sports medicine experts Dr. Adam Brown and Dr. Andrew Saffer specialize in getting kids moving again.

If your young athlete is sidelined by foot or ankle pain, contact Carolina Foot & Ankle Specialists today:

🦃Gearing Up for the Turkey Day Run/Walk!
🏃🏃🏿‍♂️👣👣👣🏃🏾‍♂️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏿‍♂️👣👣👣🏃🏃‍♀️

It’s only a month away……

Whether you’re joining because of family tradition 😉 or to kick off Thanksgiving with some exercise before feasting, we want you to have a fun and injury-free experience. Here are some essential tips to prepare for the event and keep your feet and ankles healthy:

- Gradual Training: Build endurance slowly if you’re new to long distances. Increase mileage gradually to avoid injuries like shin splints or stress fractures.

- Warm-Up and Stretch: Take a few minutes to warm up and stretch your calves, hamstrings, and ankles to prevent strains and sprains.

- Choose the Right Shoes: Wear proper footwear that offers support and cushioning. Ill-fitting shoes can cause blisters and injuries. Unsure about your shoes? Bring them to us for guidance!

- Listen to Your Body: Pay attention to pain during training. Ignoring discomfort can lead to new injuries. If pain persists, contact our office for evaluation.

- Post-Run Recovery: After the event, cool down, stretch, elevate your feet to reduce swelling, and hydrate. Rest up and enjoy family time!

Our sports podiatrists are here to support you! If you have questions about foot and ankle health, reach out.

Plantar Fasciitis vs. Bruised Heel: Know the Difference!

Are you experiencing heel pain? It’s important to understand the difference between plantar fasciitis and a bruised heel, as the treatments can vary.

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the thick band of tissue (plantar fascia) running across the bottom of your foot, connecting your heel bone to your toes. This can cause stabbing pain in the heel, especially with the first steps in the morning.

A bruised heel, on the other hand, is an injury to the fat pad under the heel bone, often caused by stepping on a hard surface or repeated impact. This can result in a dull, throbbing pain.

If you’re dealing with persistent heel pain, don’t wait - call the experts at Carolina Foot & Ankle Specialists today to get the right diagnosis and treatment plan. Our team is here to help you get back on your feet!
