I think it's time for an re-introduction! 👋🏻

My name is Natalie Louise Gauger and I live here in Charleston, South Carolina. It is my favorite place in the world! I am originally from Virginia, but once I moved to South Carolina for college, I just couldn't leave! My parents and my siblings even moved here!

I love to go on walks at Pitt Street, have boat and beach days, make new recipes, giggle with my friends, go fishing with my brother and dad and, of course, trying allllll the amazing restaurants in Charleston!

It is such an honor to be a CNS and I get so excited to see new clients and help them reach their goals!

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about the oura ring!

It monitors many functions in the body and one of my favorites is HRV!

Heart rate variability or HRV measures the changes in time between your heartbeats. We want this to vary from beat to beat!

Research shows consuming adequate amounts of omega-3s, B-vitamins, probiotics, vitamin D, zinc and polyphenols support higher HRV levels!

My two favorite oils!

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is my favorite because it has so many health benefits! It is full of antioxidants and has lots of healthy fats! It has been well studied and supports cardiovascular health, lipoprotein metabolism, diabetes, arthritis, metabolic syndrome, the brain and more!

Avocado oil is great because it has lots of healthy fats and is perfect for cooking! It has a high smoke point of 520 F! Under 520 degrees, the oil is stable and doesn't produce any toxic compounds under this temperature.

Other oils such as vegetable, sunflower, soybean oils, etc can be pro-inflammatory and have been linked to low-grade inflammation, oxidative stress and more!

GLP-1 has been alllll the buzz lately! Ozempic, Wegovey and other medications target this pathway. GLP-1 helps to reduce hunger and balance glucose/insulin pathways!

GLP-1 is naturally created in our guts! The L-cells in our gut lining create the peptide GLP-1 when we eat.

If we have gut dysbiosis, this can impact the gut's ability to make GLP-1. There is research to show the strains Akkermansia muciniphila and Clostridium butyricum both increase GLP-1 production and reduce food/sugar cravings after 3 months of supplementation.

Have questions about GLP-1 and/or weight loss?! Schedule a 15-minute discovery call with me!

A GI MAP is a stool test I order that analyzes the good and bad bacteria in your gut microbiome, fungi, parasites and other markers related to gut function!

Zonulin, a marker detecting leaky gut, can be added on to analyze intestinal permeability!

The results allow me to create the best dietary, supplement and lifestyle recommendations to restore gut health and refer out when needed!

I’ll be reviewing my GI MAP next week so stay tuned to learn more about how it has helped me!

Meal prep can be intimidating! Finding what you like, don’t like, is easy, etc can take time!

Something I found easy is prepping everything for bowls for the week! I can add what I want to them each day so it’s not so boring!

In this bowl, I made chicken thighs with Mina Harissa Sauce. Cooked them on medium for 3 min on each side!

For the base, I did a kale, cabbage and broccoli bag mixture and lentils.

I made a cucumber, tomato and red onion salad for the week to eat with salmon so I added it here too!

I added 1/2 an avocado and dill pickles too! Did feta on top and a scoop of hummus!

I drizzled the bowl with some EVOO, 1/2 lemon, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper too!

I wanted to add pickled red onions but I forgot to add them!

Make this and let me know if you do!! You’ll love it!

My espresso/coffee drinking friends, you’ll want to learn about this!

I’m sure you’ve heard “don’t drink too much caffeine” or thought “maybe I should cut back a cup or two of coffee”

The gene CYP1A2 creates an enzyme that breaks down caffeine. Some people (like myself) have a variation in this gene, causing slower caffeine metabolism.

There have been multiple studies done to determine if there was a connection between cardiovascular disease, hypertension, albuminuria, hyperfiltration and the CYP1A2 variations in caffeine metabolism associated with high caffeine intake.

It was found that the risk of these events increased significantly among individuals with variations in CYP1A2 or slow metabolizers of caffeine associated with high caffeine intake.

The studies suggest limiting caffeine intake to 200 mg per day for individuals with variations in CYP1A2 or are slow caffeine metabolizers.

Probiotics and IBS are both big buzzwords I hear often! I have a lot of clients ask if they should be taking a probiotic. My answer to this question varies based on many factors!

There are different probiotic strains to support different symptoms/diagnoses which means that every probiotic on the market may not be best for you!

I can order stool testing to analyze your current microbiome to understand how much good bacteria, bad bacteria, pathogens and how your digestive system is working. This is the best way for me to understand what is happening in your gut when creating your personalized recommendations!

I do suggest everyone consume probiotic-rich foods in their diets to support their gut microbiome! Here is a list of some of those foods:
* Yogurt
* Kimchi
* Kombucha
* Tempeh
* Sauerkraut
* Miso
