2,977 people were lost on September 11th 2001. The youngest was Christine Lee Hanson, age two and a half, from Massachusetts. Christine was a happy little girl who liked to help her mom Sue and dad Peter in the garden. She liked to talk to the flowers and the vegetables and the trees. When her paternal grandmother Eunice Hanson broke her foot, and was in a cast, little Christine led her grandmother over to a chair. “I help you Nama!,” She exclaimed. Christine ran upstairs and came back with a bandaid that she unwrapped and stuck on her grandmother’s cast. Christine was aboard United Flight 175 with her mother Sue and father Peter when it struck the south tower of the World Trade Center. As we approach the 24th year commemoration of 9/11, let us remember Christine with great honor and great love.

Short naps could reverse years of brain aging.

A recent study has revealed a surprising benefit of a habit many of us enjoy: napping. Researchers found that regular daytime naps are linked to increased brain volume, particularly in regions responsible for memory, attention, and emotional regulation. In practical terms, the study suggests that napping can effectively reduce the brain’s aging by up to six years.

The researchers monitored participants’ sleep patterns alongside brain imaging scans, discovering that even short naps—20 to 30 minutes long—can significantly improve neural health. These restorative breaks allow the brain to consolidate memories, clear toxins, and promote neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to reorganize itself and form new neural connections.

Interestingly, the study highlights that naps are not a replacement for nighttime sleep but rather a powerful supplement that supports cognitive function and overall brain longevity. For individuals with busy schedules or high stress, incorporating a brief nap could be a simple yet effective way to maintain mental sharpness and emotional balance.

Experts suggest making napping a daily ritual, ideally in the early afternoon, to maximize benefits without disrupting nighttime sleep cycles. This small habit could be a game-changer for long-term brain health, potentially slowing cognitive decline and enhancing quality of life.

P.S. Even a 20-minute power nap could give your brain a six-year head start against aging.
