This week's golden therapy nugget. What my therapist said really made me reflect. But ultimately, I do agree with this statement, although it doesn't sound super inspirational, lol. In this sense, "exposure" can be replaced as "processed," I think. This makes sense to me because my symptoms have occurred for years, and it wasn't until I started getting exposed to memories/painful emotions associated with it that I saw change. I'm sure time is a factor, and for many people, maybe they are able to go on, forget, or time itself is the process for them. I just don't think that's the case for me! What do you think?

Acceptance is the first step towards change.

I just have to remind myself. "It's OK. Whatever it is, it makes sense."

One time, my therapist called me. It must have been close to midnight. And she told me that it was okay to be scared, okay to be sad, and to hold space for myself while my emotions settled down. I listen to that voicemail often these days.
