COLLECTIVE: Knowing your tribe is with you provides essential support, calming the nervous system and facilitating the body’s natural healing process. Dr. Catherine "Cat" Lewan, PT, DPTearned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Illinois Chicago in 2010. She practiced as an orthopedic/pelvic health PT in Chicago until 2023, specializing in complex cases involving chronic pain, connective tissue disorders & dysautonomia/POTS.Her diverse experience spans treating bed-bound patients at home to working with high-level athletes & performance artists. A Midwest native, Dr. Cat earned her BA at Wake Forest University as a Presidential Scholar for Dance. With 30 years of movement teaching experience, she began her career as a dance & gymnastics instructor for kids & touring with a dance company in the Southeastern U.S. She later settled in Chicago, where she launched her first business, Equability Yoga & Pilates, cultivating a thriving community of group class participants & private fitness clients. Inner Awakening LLC reflected her evolving professional philosophy: that everyone possesses the innate ability to heal & recover with the right resources & support. Dr. Cat offers physical therapy, health coaching, wellness classes, workshops & professional continuing education. In 2023, Dr. Cat relocated to Charleston, SC, and joined the Medical University of South Carolina as a Research PT & Adjunct Faculty. She contributed to a study on vagal nerve stimulation in hypermobility spectrum disorders & (hEDS)—a condition close to her heart as she lives with hEDS herself. This genetic connective tissue disorder has shaped her personal journey, bringing with it comorbidities such as POTS/dysautonomia, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, CSF leaks & pelvic congestion syndrome. Dr. Cat’s lived experience as a patient deeply informs her practice. While she has learned from many mentors, her most important teacher has been her own body. She is passionate about empowering others to listen to their bodies, respond to their needs, and offer themselves the support necessary for healing. Recognizing that recovery often requires a team/community, she is committed to creating opportunities for individuals to connect & support one another as they move toward their strongest selves. Inner Awakening LLC is now doing business as (DBA) Move Well Collective to reflect the role of community and social support in the healing process. Dr. Cat ultimately could only get so far on her own-- she has triumphed in the face of significant traumas and barriers because she was able to find the support she needed both within herself and in resources around her. She is honored to bring to light those resources for her clients so that they know that they are not alone, they are resourced and have the inner strength and outer support to move forward toward their health and wellness goals.
