It's another first for urologist Theodore E. Brisson, MD! Dr. Brisson was the first physician in the SC Lowcountry to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) using Aquablation Therapy. Dr. Brisson performed the procedure at our hospital.

BPH is a common, non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland in aging men that squeezes the urethra, causing urinary issues like frequency, urgency, and weak flow, requiring management from lifestyle changes to medications or surgery. BPH is also a major reason men see urologists.

Aquablation is a minimally invasive surgical treatment for an enlarged prostate that uses a robotically controlled, heat-free waterjet guided by real-time ultrasound imaging to precisely remove prostate tissue.

In 2008, Dr. Brisson was the first physician to perform robotic assisted surgery at our hospital.
