So important for families to understand! As a private practice pediatrician I lose money almost every time I give a vaccine to a patient with Tricare as the government reimburses me LESS than the actual cost of the vaccine. I choose to continue to give them because my father was military AND I believe in vaccines! I am willing to lose money everyday to ensure children are protected against preventable diseases.

Important read 💙. “The numbers are increasing because of better and earlier screening, identification and access to autism evaluations. “

New data from the CDC shows an increase in children with autism spectrum disorder. The numbers are increasing because of better and earlier screening, identification and access to autism evaluations. This is encouraging because when children are identified early, appropriate supports and services can be better tailored to their needs. Pediatricians want all children to thrive, including autistic children, and they are here to help families navigate screenings and diagnoses. Autistic children demonstrate behaviors that are different from some of their peers, but they are children who deserve love and belonging like all children. This is a question we have been hearing a lot recently as families plan for upcoming summer vacations, and yes we have been administering some early! Just be aware if the early emergency dose is given they will still need the other 2 regularly scheduled doses also.

With more and more cases of measles in the news, parents may be wondering if their baby or toddler can get the first or second dose of the MMR vaccine early. Babies ages 6 through 11 months old can receive the first MMR dose early and they should if traveling internationally or they live in an area with an outbreak. For older children, the second dose of the MMR vaccine is recommended at school entry around age 4 through 6, but it can be administered early if it has been at least 28 days since the first dose. Talk to your child’s pediatrician with questions about your family’s situation. They can help you decide if your child should be vaccinated early.
