POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT-Clinical Counselor

Eastern Illinois University’s Health and Counseling Services, in Charleston, IL, is seeking candidates for the position of Clinical Counselor, Counseling Services.
This position reports to the Associate Director for Counseling Services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Providing group and individual counseling
• Providing risk assessment & crisis intervention services for students
• Providing consultation services to students, faculty, staff, & others as needed
• Providing clinical supervision of graduate students
• Serving as liaison to specific student groups and/or university offices
This is a permanent, full-time, 10-month academic support professional position, with service occurring during the academic year between August 1 and May 30.
Position requirements include:
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (counseling, clinical psychology, social work, etc.) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
• Minimal Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or equivalent eligible in Illinois required; Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred.
• Ability to facilitate effective interpersonal relationships and to communicate with a wide range of students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and others through one-on-one work, consultations, trainings, or presentations.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience with promoting inclusive excellence.

“Creating Universality: Share Your Story and Learn You Are Not Alone.”
Sharing life experiences can be powerful in connecting and teaching others. If you have knowledge and experiences to share, that could be educational and contribute to su***de prevention, please consider presenting at our spring conference. Each year, the Annual Bonine Conference is attended by individuals from a variety of backgrounds; public health professionals, emergency personnel, community mental health agencies, university faculty and staff, students, and many more. We aim to provide content throughout the conference that will be useful for all attendees regardless of profession, role, or population served.
We are currently accepting proposals for the upcoming spring conference, which will be held March 27, 2024. If you have interest in presenting at the conference, please complete the form found at the link below. Proposals are due by December 4, 2023.

EIU Health and Counseling Services to Continue Serving Students -- Update

The EIU Health and Counseling Services Counseling Clinic remains open and providing services to students during the UPI Strike.

Some of EIU's Counseling Staff are UPI members who may choose to strike. Students whose counselors are striking will have their appointments canceled or transferred to other counselors until their counselors return. These students will be notified by phone or e-mail as soon as possible.

Students who see interns and temporary help counselors will continue to be seen as scheduled.

Crisis services continue to be available between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. M-F.

For after hours and weekends, students experiencing crises should follow the directions below:

If they are experiencing a mental health crisis, they should call the National Su***de Prevention Line at 988 or the LifeLinks toll free Crisis Line at 1-866-567-2400. .

If they have experienced a sexual assault they should contact SACIS Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Services toll free 24 hours at 1-888-345-2846.

If they have experienced domestic violence they should contact Hope of Eastern Central Illinois/ Coalition Against Domestic Violence toll free 24 hours 1-888-345-3390.

For all medical emergencies or safety concerns immediately contact 911

If in doubt and unsure of what to do or who to call then dial 911.

Flu Season is around the corner! Come to one of the FREE Flu Shot Days! For students: Friday Oct. 21st from 10 am-2pm in the Library Quad. For Students, Employees, and Retirees: Wednesday Oct. 26th from 1-5 pm. Students will be in the University Ballroom, and Employees & Retirees will be in the Bridge Lounge. Employee and Retiree Flu Vaccines are dispersed by the Coles County Health Department. Make sure to bring identification! Students will need to show their Panther Cards and state employees/retirees will need to show their Panther Card or Insurance Card. Student Flu shots are available by appt in the EIU Medical Clinic as well.

Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social or behavioral science or a health science specialty from an accredited college or university and one (1) year (12 months) of progressively more responsible full-time experience in the practice of social services/agencies or medical/clinical setting maintaining acceptable standards of social work standards.

Responsibilities of the Medical Social Associate include: providing entry point access to individuals seeking counseling clinic services; screening and assessing students to determine appropriate level of care needed; assisting with providing immediate crisis intervention and response to students in need; scheduling appointments by phone; facilitating student intake process; coordinating services with internal providers and external services/programs; referring to other services and programs which can meet the students’ needs; counseling students on their services needs and providing guidance as necessary; performing simple procedures related to the care of students and clerical duties as needed; maintaining current case records; writing reports; collecting/maintaining information about community resources; entering and verifying data into the EMR system; scanning and maintaining client files for paperless charting system; maintaining data throughout the year for annual report and research for evaluation of services; creating templates, administering and maintaining the Medicat EMR application.

This is a permanent, full-time, 12-month. Benefits include: paid vacation, sick leave, health and life insurance, retirement program options, and tuition waivers. Rate of pay shall be commensurate with experience.

The qualified candidate’s application/credentials will be required to pass a Civil Service Review Examination which is comprised of a review/assessment of credentials. Medical Technologist III
Eastern Illinois University’s Health and Counseling Services is seeking candidates for a Medical Technologist III. This is a full-time, 12-month position. Benefits include: paid vacation, sick leave, health and life insurance, retirement program options, and tuition waivers.

Qualified candidates must be:
• An Illinois resident
• High school graduation or equivalent
• Have a bachelor’s degree,
• Have graduated from an accredited program for Medical Laboratory Scientists and be board certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent agency,
• and have five years of experience as a clinical laboratory technologist in a clinical laboratory of a hospital or out-patient clinic, two years of which must have been at a level comparable to that gained at the Level II of this series
• or a Master’s degree in medical technology, biology, microbiology, chemistry, physiology or closely related field, or a MBA plus a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology and four years of experience as a clinical laboratory technologist in a clinical laboratory of a hospital or out-patient clinic, two years of which must have been at a level comparable to the Medical Technologist II.

Responsibilities include: management and oversight of the HCS Medical Clinic Laboratory, including, but not limited to: supervision and training; equipment procurement, utilization, and maintenance; financial management of supplies and inventory; compliance with state and federal regulations; maintains the Laboratory Information System; and regulates lab quality control functions. The Medical Technologist is responsible for interpreting laboratory orders, establishing and performing test procedures, and coordinating services within other departments.

Qualified candidates will be required to pass a Civil Service Examination. Examination is comprised of a review/assessment of credentials; No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from qualified applicants.

EIU's Medical Clinic is located in the Human Services Building on campus. Here, you see two of the visitors we've had during the snowy weather! The Medical Clinic can be reached by calling 217-581-3013. Students can visit the clinic for all of their health and wellness needs. Not to mention, the pharmacy located in the same building has many Over-The-Counter medicines you may find yourself needing available for purchase!
