Mother’s Day can be a beautiful celebration, but for many, it also carries a quiet ache.

Today, we are holding space for the children who are missing their moms—the ones who wish they could pick up the phone, share a hug, or hear her voice just one more time. We also honor the mothers who carry the unimaginable loss of a child, whose love remains just as deep, even in absence.

This Mother’s Day, we remember, we honor, and we hold close the memories of those we are missing.

Our staff is thinking of you today, and every day. You are not alone.🌷♥️

Margie Kenda Kern-Sorg, passed away peacefully following long illness on April 26, 2026. Born on May 13, 1957, Margie lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and an indomitable spirit that touched all who knew her.

Margie was a true Ta**us in every sense—steadfast, loving, and fiercely determined. Her personality was as vibrant as her striking red hair; she was known for her warm smile and generous heart. A natural leader and a woman who embraced life's challenges head-on, Margie wasn’t afraid to stand her ground even in her school days, where she famously held her own among the boys. She was meticulous and committed to excellence, always insisting on doing things the right way the first time. Her tenacity and spirit were endearing traits that defined her character.

Professionally, Margie was both a formidable businesswoman and a dedicated supervisor. For 15 years, she owned and operated Dave's Produce in Jeffersonville, where she cultivated strong relationships with her community. Following this, she embarked on a new chapter at Ceaser's Casino in English, where she served as the supervisor of the cage for 25 years. Her tenure there was remarkable—working from the opening day of the casino until her well-earned retirement. Margie's career reflected her persistent work ethic, efficiency, and pride in every task undertaken.

Outside of work, Margie found joy in simple pleasures and treasured activities. She and her sister Kathy shared a special bond, frequently exchanging puzzles, a pastime that brought them closer together. Karen and Margie shared close birthday's, often teasing Karen that she was only a year younger. Her skills behind the wheel were admired by many, especially her quick and precise ability to back a boat into the water with ease. Margie loved the outdoors, spending countless hours fishing, camping, and reveling in time on the water. Every moment was an opportunity for enjoyment or hard work, embodying her balanced and spirited approach to life.

One of Margie’s most cherished traditions was the annual Bunco trips with Paula and ten close friends to Potoka Lake, creating memories filled with laughter, camaraderie, and joy. These trips were a testament to how much she valued friendship and community—a quality that made her beloved by all.

Margie is survived by her devoted siblings: Paula (Gary) Murphy, Karen E. Meadors, Kathy (Buddy) Schuster, Theodore (Lori) Kern, and Teri (Johnny) Kleber. She is also fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Sherry Kern, as well as several nieces and nephews who will carry forward her legacy of love and strength.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore W. Kern and Gracie Darlene Kern Schuster; her husband of 25 years, Robert “Bobby” Sorg; and her brothers Kenny Kern, Herbie Chester, and Kirbie Chester.

Margie Kenda Kern-Sorg lived a life filled with love, resilience, and grace. The warmth she shared and the memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She was, indeed, a person everyone loved, and she loved everyone in return. Her legacy is one of unwavering dedication and true affection, a beacon of light that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Margie's wishes were for cremation and to buried with Bobby at the New Albany National Cemetery with a graveside service prior to interment.
