Bee Happy Homestead

Bee Happy Homestead We take the harvested veggies, flowers, eggs and bee products and turn it all into fantastic things! We have almost completed the 2015 harvest season.

We have produced pickles, jams, jellies, salsas and more. We got out first honey harvest this year and while we are sold out of honey we are making products from the wax that was collected in the process.

About 5 years ago we got a grant for a drilled well. Spent 4 years calling all the RI licensed well drillers and couldn't get anyone to do it. Apparently our money was no good. So if you want something done, do it yourself!
December 20, 2024 I started to put in a point well. Today June 23, 2025 there is water in our field!

We are going solar! Hopefully our honey supers get so full that we will need the energy from these panels to run our two electric extractors for many, many hours!

Just another day in the office. We caught them.

Honey update! While the bees were quickly filling the boxes, they then quickly ate the honey. The nectar flow from clethra was very short lived, one week versus several. We are seeing nearly nothing come in from goldenrod and there is little hope for knotweed.
The focus now is condensing the hive size so they can store what food they can find in their winter set up and controlling mites. We are probably going to have to feed our bees ahead of winter when we prefer to leave them honey.
We do have some honey in the basement, but the moisture content is too high. If we can’t get it lowered in the next week (it sits in a room with a dehumidifier) it will be fed back to the bees before it ferments.
We normally would have around 500 pounds of honey by this time of the year. This season we have harvested and bottled around 100. They aren’t paying their bills this year! That’s beekeeping!
