Physical Therapy & Stabilization Exercises for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) đź’™
Living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome means your connective tissues are more elastic than typical — which can lead to joint instability, frequent sprains, pain, fatigue, and even dislocations.
✨ The good news? Physical Therapy can help.
Rather than aggressive stretching (which can worsen instability), PT for EDS focuses on:
✔️ Joint stabilization exercises
✔️ Low-load strengthening
✔️ Proprioceptive training (body awareness)
✔️ Postural control
✔️ Neuromuscular re-education
The goal is to build muscle support around hypermobile joints, improve control, and reduce pain — safely and progressively.
Research supports that targeted strengthening and stabilization programs can improve function and decrease symptoms in people with hypermobility disorders.
If you or someone you love has EDS, working with a PT who understands hypermobility can be life-changing. đź’™

Migraines are more than “just headaches.”
They can affect work, family time, sleep, and overall quality of life.
đź’ˇ Did you know Physical Therapy (PT) and manual therapy can help treat migraines?
Research shows that: 🔷️Manual therapy and targeted exercise can reduce migraine frequency and intensity by up to 40–50% in some people
🔷️ PT interventions have been shown to decrease migraine days per month and improve function and quality of life
🔷️ Many people report less reliance on medication when PT is part of their care plan
🔷️How PT helps with migraines:
✔️ Addresses neck, shoulder, and jaw tension
✔️ Improves posture and movement patterns that can trigger headaches
✔️ Uses hands-on manual therapy to reduce muscle and joint irritation and improve lymphatic drainage of the head, neck and shoulders
✔️ Teaches exercises and self-management strategies to prevent future flare-ups
✨ Migraines often have musculoskeletal contributors — and PT is uniquely trained to treat the source, not just the symptoms.
If migraines are limiting your life, there are options beyond medication alone.

Message us to learn how PT could be part of your migraine treatment plan.

That's quite a grip! Thanks for joining us at a Fall Prevention Inservice and Balance Screen at the Charlestown Senior Center Pot Luck today. Food, friends and a little fitness!

đź’Ş Dynamometer Testing & Fall Risk
Hand-held dynamometer testing—most commonly grip strength—is a well-established, objective marker related to fall risk, especially in adults over 50.
Grip strength reflects overall muscle strength, neuromuscular integrity, and functional reserve.
Lower grip strength is associated with: • Slower gait speed
• Poor balance and reaction time
• Sarcopenia and frailty
• Increased risk of falls, disability, hospitalization, and mortality
Even though it measures the hand, grip strength correlates strongly with lower-extremity strength and overall function.
âś” Simple, fast, and inexpensive screening tool
âś” Can identify fall risk before balance visibly declines
âś” Most effective when used as part of a multifactorial fall-risk assessment
Strength matters—at every age.

✨ What is Tensegrity? (And why it matters for your body!)

“Tensegrity” means tensional integrity — it’s how structures stay strong by balancing tension and compression.
In the body, think of it like this:
🧵 fascia, muscles, and ligaments create tension
🦴 bones provide compression
Instead of one area doing all the work, the whole system shares the load. That’s why tightness in one spot can affect movement somewhere completely different.
đź’ˇ What tensegrity helps explain:
✔️ posture and alignment
✔️ how our bodies absorb shock
✔️ why injuries or restrictions can show up far from the problem area
✔️ why treating the whole system is so important in rehab and movement training
Tensegrity reminds us: stability isn’t stiffness — it’s dynamic balance.
Move well. Move smart. Stay strong. đź’Ş

What’s TRX & why do we use it in physical therapy?
TRX Suspension Training uses your body weight + gravity to build strength, mobility, and stability in a safe, customizable way. By adjusting your body angle, we can instantly make an exercise easier or harder—perfect for rehab at any level.

✨ Why we love using TRX in the clinic:
• Builds true core strength with every movement
• Supports proper form and reduces joint stress
• Helps improve balance and coordination
• Great for shoulder, hip, knee, and back rehab
• Bridges the gap between rehab and real-life movement
• Progresses patients from basic exercises to advanced functional training

✨ What it helps with:
• Low back pain
• Post-op strengthening
• Hip & knee stability
• Shoulder rehabilitation
• Balance deficits
• Return-to-sport conditioning
• Functional strength for everyday life

Whether you’re rebuilding strength after injury or looking to move better and feel stronger, TRX makes rehab effective, safe, and totally customizable

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.
