What is cash pay Physical therapy? In a cash-based treatment model, the physical therapist collaborate with the patient on a plan of care to provide physical therapy services in a manner that both parties have determined will help them reach treatment goals most efficiently. The patient pays at the time of service, allowing the therapist to focus attention on providing the best possible service while keeping administrative costs low. You may pay for services using actual cash, or a credit or debit card. Why Cash Based Physical Therapy? Insurance companies have been progressively lowering reimbursement to therapists and all health care providers. As a result, Therapy clinics all over the country have turned into "therapy mills" where Physical Therapists may have 10-15 minutes with a patient before sending them on to do exercises or receive a modality (ultrasound or electrical stimulation) with an Aide or Assistant. The other option is usually treating more than one patient at a time. This is not high quality care or the way that I choose to do business. Being a cash based practice allows us to keep our pricing lower than more traditional therapy clinics. Without having to hire extra staff to focus solely on billing, our per unit charge is significantly lower. In this era of high deductibles, most patients with private insurance actually save money (co-pays, deductible, co-insurance) when they just pay cash upfront. Can the patient file for Reimbursement to their Insurance Company? Yes, The process is actually quite simple: Upright Physical Therapy will provide you with an invoice at the time of service, and you may submit that invoice and receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement. The invoice has all of the necessary information (business name and address, tax ID, national provider identification, license numbers, etc.) as well as the patient’s ICD-10 (diagnosis) and CPT (billing) codes. You may choose to submit bills following each visit, one time per month, or at any other interval, typically up to one year following your treatment visit. You are encouraged to call and speak to your insurance provider(s) to verify what you can expect for reimbursement and any necessary paperwork they will require. Accepted forms of payment: cash, Venmo, credit or debit cards. This includes health care spending account debit cards.
