A little preparation before a genealogy visit to the Georgia Archives can save you time once you arrive.

Before you visit, try to:

• Gather the names, dates, and places you already know
• Figure out what information you still need to find
• Write down the records or questions you want to ask about
• Explore the Georgia Archives website to see what may be available before you come in

Online tools can help you get started. Research Help pages offer guidance by topic, the book catalog can help you find published resources, guides to records and collections can show what materials may be available, and Virtual Vault lets you search digitized records, photographs, maps, and other materials online. You can even submit a question to our Reference staff through the Ask an Archivist webform.
