Movement can help heal pain when we do it right.

What does it mean to do it right?

It means right for you and the unique needs of your body.

How do we know what’s right?

It takes practice and patience. It’s a practice of learning to connect with your body and listening to what is happening in your body; in your nerves, your tissues, your bones, your breath.

Bodywork is about reconnecting with your body and learning to take good care of yourself.

You can use your breath to calm down and bring more balance to your nervous system.

Many of us have overactive nervous systems. We are constantly “on”, amped up, ready for action. We need this, sometimes.

We also need calmness. We need to be able to rest, digest, and heal.

The breath is a powerful force that we can harness for our emotional, mental, and physical well-being because of its intricate connections to our nervous system.

Breath work is bodywork. Good breathing is essential in the healing process. As a bodywork practitioner, I prioritize quality of breathing with my clients because I know how much it impacts your quality of life.

Calmness is a powerful form of self-defense✨

I see calmness like a shield that can protect us from the effects of an overactive nervous system.

Sometimes we need to get amped up, whether it be for survival or sport or other activities that require adrenaline.

We also need to come back down.

Easier said than done, especially in these turbulent times.

Touch and breath are two of my favorite resources for creating calmness so that I can feel safe and at home in my body.

Placing your hands over your heart to feel your heartbeat and taking a few slow, deep breaths can have an incredibly calming and balancing impact on your nervous system.

Let me know if you try it 💖

Supported backbend! ✨

Why?

🔹 Relieves tension in mid-upper back.
🔹Stretches tight muscles in chest and abdomen.
🔹Improves breathing capacity.
🔹Feels good.

This position can be especially good if you spend a lot of time with a rounded upper back while you work.

On the floor, couch or bed:

➡️ Use a rolled up blanket/towel or a firm pillow/bolster along your mid back.
➡️ Let the tops of your shoulders hang towards the floor.
➡️ Support your head with another prop if needed.
➡️ Legs straight or knees bent depending on your needs.
➡️ Make sure it feels good.
➡️ Take deep breaths for 1-2 minutes.
➡️ Slowly exit the position.
➡️ Notice how you feel.

Let me know if you try it! 💜

Diaphragm treatment! One of our favorites at Body Heal Therapy 🙌

Even though you can’t really feel your diaphragm moving, it’s constantly working as your primary breathing muscle to ensure that you are able to breathe well and maintain an upright posture.

This means your diaphragm needs to be able to move without restriction.

If your powerful primary breathing muscle is restricted, bodywork and manual therapy techniques (such as the one pictured here) can help to release tightness and restriction, and get you back to breathing like a baby.

Think baby belly breaths!

Remember: breathing well and postural stability are essential to your well-being! 💯

My bodywork practice is deeply rooted in the study of my own body. I’ve dedicated many hours to listening to what I feel through my body, in stillness and in movement, discovering what my body is capable of, feeling for what my body needs.

As a bodyworker, I guide my clients into deeper connection with their own bodies through manual therapy, movement, breath work, and awareness practices. We work together to co-create an environment wherein the body can find balance, ease, strength, and relief.

This is embodiment work and it takes practice. Consistent practice. Patience and practice.

Practice for the purpose of looking out for ourselves, for our bodies, for the quality of our lives. Practice in movement, practice in stillness, practice in breathing, practice in feeling. Slow and steady.

One breath at a time.
