We love receiving pictures like this from our mamas doing the work at home with their little ones!! 🥳👏🏼👶🏻

We have been hard at work with our client, working to correct an open-mouth resting posture. So, what do we LOVE about this picture (other than the sweetest little face we’ve ever seen 🥹) ?!

1. CHEWING! 😬 Chewing helps to target and strengthen the muscles of the face encouraging proper facial development, promotes nasal breathing and encourages correct tongue posture.
2. VIBRATING TOOLS! 🫨 Tools that have vibration create more awareness and tactile stimulation during play. We use them to help “wake up” our muscles and keep them engaged during oral motor therapy.
3. TUMMY TIME! 🙆🏼‍♀️ Tummy time creates the opportunity for stretching and movement of the tongue for our infants. They are also working to build muscles throughout their neck and shoulders which creates a strong foundation for oral motor functioning.

If you are concerned with your infant or child’s oral resting posture, please send us a DM! We want to help! ☺️

Thank you for the pic! 🥰

Did you have braces at some point in your life? Have your teeth shifted since? I know mine have! 🙋🏼‍♀️ So.. why is that?!

Short Answer: Your tongue! 👅

Long Answer: Your tongue (a muscle) is stronger than your teeth (bones)! If your tongue is constantly resting improperly against your teeth, eventually it will produce enough force to shift them. 💪🏼 To ensure your teeth don’t shift after orthodontic care, your tongue should be properly resting in your palate and not against your teeth. 🦷

If you or your children’s teeth have shifted since getting your braces removed, an orofacial myofunctional evaluation is for you! Give us a call or send us a DM - we are happy to help! 😊

One of our most frequently asked questions is… how many sessions will my child need? 🤨❓

Our answer is… it depends!! 🤷🏼‍♀️ While, we understand wanting to plan ahead, every child will respond differently to treatment. A few factors that may determine the duration of therapy are:
1. Age and compliance of your child
2. Consistency of carryover at home
3. Severity of your child’s deficits
4. Treatment required by other providers (expansion, bodywork, tonsillectomy, etc.)

Together we can devise a treatment plan that is best for your child. We just ask that you are open and patient with the process! ⏳

If you have any questions regarding treatment duration or myofunctional therapy, please let us know! We are happy to help 🙂

While the acts of gagging and choking may seem similar, they are actually very different experiences.

Gagging is a protective reflex that protects our kiddos FROM choking and therefore, is very important. 😮 Around the age of 6-9 months, you should see your child’s gag reflex move towards the back 1/3 of their tongue and continue to desensitize. The trouble is when our child’s gag reflex remains hypersensitive and near the front of their tongue as they grow older, creating feeding struggles and aversions.

So what causes that to happen, you ask?! 🤔🤔👀

One of the common symptoms present with a tongue-tie is a hyperactive gag reflex. Due to the restriction of the tongue, there is limited mobility and range of motion, as well as, the inability to stimulate parts of the oral cavity such as the roof of the mouth and soft palate. This can influence your child’s strong gag reflex to stick around for too long, creating unwanted issues.

If you suspect your child’s hyperactive gag reflex has stuck around for too long, i encourage you to determine the WHY ❓❓❓ At , we will work with you and evaluate your child to determine the root cause of their struggles.
