Promise Resource Network Through community initiatives, PRN offers free, open access supports and resources for people who experience mental health and substance use challenges.

Promise Resource Network, Inc. was started in 2006 in Charlotte, NC as Mecklenburg’s PROMISE to embrace all people and create opportunities for wellness, healing, and transformation. PRN is a peer-run organization that employs people in recovery to partner with individuals, families, communities and organizations to advance recovery from emotional distress, mental health and substance use challenges. PRN's services are contributing to the development of a recovery-oriented behavioral health system where recovery is valued, expected, supported and funded.

Our Recovery Court Team offers voluntary peer support for people navigating court involvement or preparing to return to the Mecklenburg County community. Rooted in shared lived experience, our team understands the challenges of court involvement and walks alongside people with respect, compassion, and real understanding. We support individuals as they prepare for hearings, plan for reentry, rebuild their lives, and connect to housing, employment, and community supports. At the heart of this work is dignity, personal choice, accountability without judgment, and the belief that everyone deserves the chance to heal and reimagine their future.

Last month, Promise Resource Network opened the doors to The Retreat @ the Cabin, our new peer‑run respite in Cabarrus County. Today, we’re excited to share a tour of the space along with an interview with our founder and CEO, Cherene Caraco, who speaks about the heart and story behind it.

The Retreat at the Cabin is a peaceful, voluntary place for adults to stay during times of emotional distress or crisis at no cost. It offers a supportive alternative to emergency departments or hospital stays, with no locks, no shared rooms, and no pressure. Guests are supported by peers with lived experience and can spend their time in whatever way feels most helpful, whether that’s resting, creating art, cooking, walking outdoors, or talking things through.

We’re grateful to see this vision come to life and honored to share more about it with the community in Cabarrus County!

Located in Fernwood in Raleigh, it offers comfort, privacy, and real connection with others who understand. 🦋 Guests can spend their time however they choose, whether that means resting, creating art, cooking, walking in the garden, or talking things through with peer support. Healing happens at your own pace and in your own way, surrounded by care, dignity, and community. 🏠💚

Today we proudly celebrated the grand opening of The Retreat @ The Cabin, Promise Resource Network’s new peer‑run respite in Cabarrus County. This marks an exciting step forward in expanding compassionate, community‑based spaces focused on healing, connection, and hope.

We were honored to kick off the day hearing from our CEO, Cherene Caraco, and to be joined by incredible leaders who shared their support for this work and the community it serves. We want to give a heartfelt thank you to our speakers:

Starting tomorrow! Promise Resource Network is proud to celebrate the opening of our new Cabarrus peer‑run respite, The Retreat @ The Cabin, on March 25–26. We’re honored to introduce a new space rooted in healing, connection, and compassionate peer support for individuals navigating crisis or emotional distress.

Open House tours will take place Wednesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 26, from 12–4 PM each day.

Tours are limited and available by registration only. Space is first‑come, first‑served, and registered guests will receive parking and tour details via email.
