Have you checked out The Birth Bundle package?

The Bundle consists of 12 sessions working with a pelvic floor PT: 4 during pregnancy and 8 postpartum (can be adjusted accordingly if needed!).

These sessions are designed to take the guesswork OUT of staying active during pregnancy without dysfunction, and rehabbing to return to exercise postpartum.

This is a perfect option for someone looking to:
☑️stay active during pregnancy
☑️work with someone one on one to maintain your specific goals
☑️treat any pelvic floor dysfunction, core rehab, back/hip pains, etc.
☑️return to sport/fitness with confidence

These sessions can be in-person or virtual. Check out our website or call today for more info!

How we transfer and accept load is crucial for unilateral movements (running, lunges, step ups, etc.).⠀

As you shift your weight side to side, how does your body respond?⠀

You can see here there is some compensation with a trunk lean. This tells me we need to look at her left hip and how it’s stabilizing when in that single leg position. ⠀

Some other common compensations include:⠀
👉🏼loss of balance ⠀
👉🏼leaning backwards into low back extension ⠀
👉🏼a pelvic drop on the opposite side⠀

Doesn’t always mean something is wrong or painful, but an easy, helpful self evaluation tool that can cue us to dig a little deeper.⠀

Are you struggling with one sided weakness? Pain with movements like running, lunges, step ups? A PT can help with this!⠀

Been to physical therapy before and it wasn’t a great experience? Here are 5 things to look for in a HIGH quality PT:⠀

1️⃣Someone who listens - doesn’t interrupt. Wants to hear your story, asks questions, willing to think outside the box.⠀

2️⃣Someone who doesn’t place you in a cookie cutter rehab plan. You have back pain? Do pelvic tilts, bridges, ab squeezes and bird dogs.❌⠀

3️⃣Someone who advocates for you. Makes necessary referrals. Teams up with other members on your wellness team (physician, trainer, massage therapist, chiro) to help you meet your goals.⠀

4️⃣Someone who will admit when they DON’T know something, but promise they’ll work with you to figure it out.⠀

5️⃣Doesn’t use fear driven language and blanket ultimatum statements. “Running is bad for your knees”, “lifting will kill your back”, etc. A good PT will find ways to keep you moving, even if it’s scaled back.⠀

Good providers are out there! Self advocacy is so important and sometimes it takes some weeding out. What are some of your experiences?⠀

Exercise during pregnancy has a long, long list of benefits: decreased incidence of gestational diabetes, hypertension, preterm birth, and gestational weight gain. ACOG recommends maintaining 150 minutes of activity per week.✨⠀

How do you know when to modify when something doesn’t feel right?⠀

Here is a quick list of signs that you may need to modify intensity or training loads instead of just “listening to your body”:⠀

▪️urinary leakage⠀
▪️pelvic pain ⠀
▪️pelvic heaviness/pressure⠀
▪️abdominal coning or doming⠀
▪️inability to perform with proper form/execution⠀
▪️bump impeding ability to maintain form ⠀

POSTPARTUM RETURN TO RUNNING ROADMAP.⠀

I'm so excited to finally release this *FREE* resource to the world. I've wanted to do this for a long time in order to help bridge the HUGE gap in the 4th trimester. After having a baby, there is a disconnect between the 6-week clearance date and actual readiness in returning to fitness - in this case, specifically running. ⠀

Unfortunately, this area is under-researched and we don't have a lot of clinical evidence. However, a group of amazing physios gathered the current evidence and established some postnatal running guidelines in 2019. ⠀

Utilizing their helpful recs along with my own clinical expertise, I've developed this to search as a guide for women after their clearance date. This is also a handy resource for trainers and ortho PT's for their postpartum clientele.⠀

In this roadmap, you will have evidence-based guidance on:⠀

👉🏼simple self strength testing⠀
👉🏼a list of load/impact readiness tests⠀
👉🏼education on diastasis recti and how to check or it⠀
👍🏼helpful tips including nursing and sports bra recs⠀
👍🏼a graded return to running progression⠀

This is just a starting point. It is a way for folks to feel like they have a plan and some education behind that plan. It is ALWAYS best to seek individualized care and get a plan suited for you personally.⠀

PLEASE like, save, and share with your friends. Many women don't know that pelvic floor therapy exists and the best way to do that is spreading the good word!⠀

Physical therapy post-cesarean section.⠀

Long story short: do it!🙌🏼⠀

A recent study showed that participants who received PT had improved outcomes compared to the control group. ⠀

PT participants reported:⠀
☑️less pain⠀
☑️improved ability to perform exercise⠀
☑️higher satisfaction scores!⠀

This data also supports that the impact of PT on pain is HIGH in the early postoperative period.⠀

Cesarean sections are extremely common and most women are given a few/generalized instructions regarding lifting and rest, as well as return to activity. It is very common post-cesarean to present with back pain, bowel/bladder dysfunction, and scar tissue adhesions.⠀

If you did have a cesarean section, physical therapy IS incredibly beneficial to attend! Your therapist will guide you with scar management (AN ABSOLUTE MUST!), core retraining, hip and low back exercises, diastasis recti assessment, strength and postural assessment, AS WELL AS addressing any pelvic floor needs.⠀

This guidance should be a GIVEN for any woman after birth, but so many have no idea that this kind of rehabilitation even exists. ⠀

Share with your friends! 🗣⠀

You do not need a prescription in NC to attend physical therapy. Let a PT help you return to life and exercise with confidence.⠀
