Attention, Parents & Patients!

We have received our flu vaccines. We wanted to notify all, especially our middle and high school kids to get this off your “TO DO” list before the time crunch that comes with academic and extracurricular activities. Get protected from missing a week of school and sports and putting another stress on your GPA. Also, if this is the first time you are receiving the flu vaccine under age 9, you will need 2 doses one month apart. Please call our office to schedule ---first come, first served.

As many of you have seen, there is a lot of construction going on with the parking lots at SouthPark Pediatrics. Our designated SouthPark Pediatrics parking spots are moving soon. Attached is a map showing how you will enter the parking lot and access our NEW DESINGATED PARKING SPOTS. As of right now the new designated parking spots are just labeled RESERVED but that will be changing to a SouthPark Pediatrics designation soon. As always, please select a VISITOR, parking spot, FIRST, and if none available, park in our designated spots.

With Halloween right around the corner, now is the perfect time for any patient weighting 44 pounds, age 5 and older, to learn how to swallow a pill using the candy corn method. If you feel your child is ready, you should cut off the white tip of the candy corn and practice swallowing, without chewing, and with water.

Just an FYI for all patients involved with active team leagues, middle/high school athletics, and Boy Scouts of America: We expect our families to be compliant with all SouthPark Pediatrics follow-up. All athletes who see a cardiologist, have had any orthopedic related injury, or been diagnosed with a concussion must be compliant with follow-up and have received clearance from the specialist in order for us to complete your forms.

Attention, Parents & Patients!

We have received a portion of our flu vaccines and with the recent Hurricane Harvey in Texas and the threats of Irma there is a concern that our remaining shipment could be delayed. We wanted to notify all, especially our middle and high school kids to get this off your "TO DO" list before the time crunch that comes with academic and extracurricular activities. Get protected from missing a week of school and sports and putting another stress on your GPA. Please call our office to schedule ---first come, first served.

Just a reminder that if the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) series is started by age 14, it is only a 2-dose series, 6 months apart. If the HPV series is started after the age of 14, it is a 3-dose series (0, 2, 6 months). Please visit our website, http://southparkpediatrics.net/immunizations.html, for details regarding this vaccine.

Trumenba (Men B Vaccine) protects against meningococcal serotype G disease, which is often seen on college campuses. It is a 2-dose series, 6 months apart, for patients who are age 16-23 year old. We would like to start giving this vaccine to our patients in this age range when they come in for their flu vaccine. Some health insurance companies have not reliably notified us yet whether they will be paying for this vaccine, and if so, whether the reimbursement they offer will cover our costs. This vaccine will be ordered on an as needed basis. If any of our patients would like this vaccine, please download from our website(http://southparkpediatrics.net/formsonline.html), sign and submit the wavier via fax or mail to our office one week prior to your appointment.

Happy Spring/Summer to all our SouthPark Pediatrics families!!!

Hope all our Mom's had a very Happy Mother's Day!!!

As we approach the end of school and summer break, SouthPark Pediatrics will be busy preparing to deliver your requested forms completed for summer camps, preschool, kindergarten and general school and sports physicals for the upcoming school year.

Please check our website southparkpediatrics.net for details of our Health Form Policy. If you are up to date on your annual physical within the past 12 months, please complete your portion of the form before providing to our staff and provide us with a self-addressed, stamped envelope so that we can have your form returned to you as efficiently as possible.
Active sports camps, team leagues, middle/high school athletes, high intensity Boy Scouts of America: Athletic participation and relevant family medical history questions requiring clearance are found on our website at 'services and forms', then 'forms on line'. Print and complete with patient and parent input. We encourage you to schedule early so that any concerns that come to light at your checkup/sports physical may be satisfactorily addressed allowing us to receive approval for participation from any necessary specialty consults to meet your particular program deadlines.

Please DO NOT WAIT until the last minute before tryouts for requesting sports form completion. In order to process all forms by the due date, please submit any forms due in July by June 14th and all forms due in August by July 12th.

For annual well child checkups, patients who plan to participate in sports at ANY time during the 2017-18 school year, can avoid a processing charge for form completion, if you will please bring all of your camp, sports, school and/or preschool forms with you to your annual visit.

Please remember, all patients between 9 and 11 years old are expected to have a fasting lipid profile done before the 12th birthday. To receive the results of these labs at any scheduled visit, it would be best to consider having all eligible children in your family to have a low-fat dinner, no breakfast, and drink plenty of water so that the blood collection will be less challenging. Also, before presenting to the outpatient lab of your choice, confirm that it is covered under your insurance plan. If you are unable to find the lab request that we provided with you at your last visit or checkup, feel free to give us a call so that we can have a copy waiting for you to pick up from Natalie at the front desk. Reviewing these results early in the summer allows us to address any concerning nutritional and exercise deficits as well as identifying risk factors for development in the future of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

REMEMBER: Summer is not just a break to let “kids be kids,” but is an opportunity to focus on family goals without the added time stress of school and extracurricular activities. Highlighting responsibilities of each child’s contribution to their family and home community will help children become responsible adults! Both exercise and reading should equal or exceed time spent at screen-including television, mobile phone apps, texting, or “surfing the internet.” One way to help keep kids’ active is using a pedometer, which is relatively inexpensive, and the whole family can participate in a competition to see who achieves the most steps daily. See details of our summer reading contest below.

For referrals, please remember to call us with your appointment dates on any referrals to any specialists, so we can make sure they have everything they need when you arrive for your consult visit.

We want to recognize our patient's achievements on our Brag Page of our practice website/Facebook! Send us your academic, sports, & leadership awards and recognition to post!!

Philanthropy
Our local fire departments like to give out stuffed animals to help provide comfort to kids in emergency situations. We would like to collect any gently used stuffed animals to donate, so if your family would like to contribute, bring them to the office, and we will see that they are distributed to the local fire departments.
