Happy Spring/Summer to all our SouthPark Pediatrics families!!!
Hope all our Mom's had a very Happy Mother's Day!!!
As we approach the end of school and summer break, SouthPark Pediatrics will be busy preparing to deliver your requested forms completed for summer camps, preschool, kindergarten and general school and sports physicals for the upcoming school year.
Please check our website southparkpediatrics.net for details of our Health Form Policy. If you are up to date on your annual physical within the past 12 months, please complete your portion of the form before providing to our staff and provide us with a self-addressed, stamped envelope so that we can have your form returned to you as efficiently as possible.
Active sports camps, team leagues, middle/high school athletes, high intensity Boy Scouts of America: Athletic participation and relevant family medical history questions requiring clearance are found on our website at 'services and forms', then 'forms on line'. Print and complete with patient and parent input. We encourage you to schedule early so that any concerns that come to light at your checkup/sports physical may be satisfactorily addressed allowing us to receive approval for participation from any necessary specialty consults to meet your particular program deadlines.
Please DO NOT WAIT until the last minute before tryouts for requesting sports form completion. In order to process all forms by the due date, please submit any forms due in July by June 14th and all forms due in August by July 12th.
For annual well child checkups, patients who plan to participate in sports at ANY time during the 2017-18 school year, can avoid a processing charge for form completion, if you will please bring all of your camp, sports, school and/or preschool forms with you to your annual visit.
Please remember, all patients between 9 and 11 years old are expected to have a fasting lipid profile done before the 12th birthday. To receive the results of these labs at any scheduled visit, it would be best to consider having all eligible children in your family to have a low-fat dinner, no breakfast, and drink plenty of water so that the blood collection will be less challenging. Also, before presenting to the outpatient lab of your choice, confirm that it is covered under your insurance plan. If you are unable to find the lab request that we provided with you at your last visit or checkup, feel free to give us a call so that we can have a copy waiting for you to pick up from Natalie at the front desk. Reviewing these results early in the summer allows us to address any concerning nutritional and exercise deficits as well as identifying risk factors for development in the future of diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
REMEMBER: Summer is not just a break to let “kids be kids,” but is an opportunity to focus on family goals without the added time stress of school and extracurricular activities. Highlighting responsibilities of each child’s contribution to their family and home community will help children become responsible adults! Both exercise and reading should equal or exceed time spent at screen-including television, mobile phone apps, texting, or “surfing the internet.” One way to help keep kids’ active is using a pedometer, which is relatively inexpensive, and the whole family can participate in a competition to see who achieves the most steps daily. See details of our summer reading contest below.
For referrals, please remember to call us with your appointment dates on any referrals to any specialists, so we can make sure they have everything they need when you arrive for your consult visit.
We want to recognize our patient's achievements on our Brag Page of our practice website/Facebook! Send us your academic, sports, & leadership awards and recognition to post!!
Philanthropy
Our local fire departments like to give out stuffed animals to help provide comfort to kids in emergency situations. We would like to collect any gently used stuffed animals to donate, so if your family would like to contribute, bring them to the office, and we will see that they are distributed to the local fire departments.
