I’m about to say something y’all do not want to hear…
But hear me out. 👀
(Please know, I dreaded to post this).
It might be possible— just maybe—that moms are the ones ruining Christmas.
(as well as other factors).
Not because we’re doing anything “wrong,” but because we’re doing too much.
We set the tone in the house. We decide whether the season feels magical or miserable. And sometimes the pressure, the perfectionism, the “make it special or it doesn’t count” energy… it steals the joy right out of December.

Our kids don’t need a flawless Christmas.
They need a mom who’s present, not panicked.
A mom who laughs, not lists.
A mom who lets the magic be simple.

This year, I’m choosing peace over perfection—because the truth is, the tone of this whole season starts with us. 🎄 •

First- I’ve missed y’all, but I’m back!

Now- let’s talk about triggers.
They’re not exactly bad or good — they’re your body’s way of saying, “Hey, something feels off.”

Some triggers are there to keep you safe.
Others… are just old alarms that haven’t realized the danger is over.

When you start to understand which is which, you begin to feel more peace — not because life stops being hard, but because you stop feeling hijacked by it.

It’s not about getting rid of triggers.
It’s about updating the system. 💛

Overstimulated? That might be an understatement 😵‍💫. If that’s you, keep reading.

Did you know that your environment impacts your anxiety? Next time you’re feel overwhelmed or anxious, an overstimulated environment probably isn’t helping. Maybe it’s the witching hours between dinner and bedtime, when you’re phone is still full of unread text messages from the day, the kitchen is full of dirty dishes, and maybe you can’t totally tell if your kids are passionately playing, whining, or arguing over the noise the TV is making.
It’s all just a lot! And y’all, it’s making your anxiety worse!
Next time you feel overwhelmed try taking these three steps:
Check your environment, what is stimulating your senses? Is your phone stressing you out? Or is there a toy your baby is playing with that is making a lot of noise? Identify those things!
Find one thing you can turn off. Once you figure out what is causing dysregulation, turn something off. Maybe it’s your phone or maybe it’s taking that loud toy and putting it up on a high shelf.
Take 3 big, deep breaths and start to regulate your nervous system.

I need all moms to hear this 🚨. As a therapist, I spent years of my career doing therapy and social work with all kinds of mothers. Every mother taught me life-long lessons.

I met mothers who didn’t feed their children or take them to school. I worked with moms who did hard drugs while they knew they were pregnant. Some let their children go to school dirty, and hungry. They didn’t kiss their children goodnight or hold them when they were scared.

What overwhelmed me is that these bad moms didn’t worry about being bad moms. They slept great at night. They’re light as a feather. And then it hit me:

Bad moms don’t worry about being bad moms. Good moms do that.

In all my years of being a counselor, this is one of the greatest lessons that the Lord has taught me. I know we are called to not worry. We are taught to trust in the Lord and lean not on our own understanding. Perhaps, replace “worry” for “care”. The fact that you are here today, the fact that you cracked a book, or are reading this post, the fact that your anxiety and depression concerns you, intrinsically means that you are not a bad mom.

I hope this will help you and your new year. I pray this will help you give yourself grace.

Have you ever felt like you don’t even recognize the person you are now that you are a mom? You knew that new mom life would be full of really big high’s and also really hard challenges, but even though you prepared as much as you could, you’re still asking yourself is it really supposed to be THIS hard?
Maybe mom life isn’t what you expected, maybe balancing it all is making you feel a little crazy, or you just don’t know how to actually take care of yourself and find time for self care amidst everything else you are responsible for (including keeping multiple humans alive!). If you have struggled with managing stress, responding in anger or just feeling like your mind feels out of control, this episode will be SO insightful. Rachael Elmore has been a licensed Christian therapist for 20+ years and is also an award-winning author. We are diving into the biology of “mommy brain”, how our brains actually change after becoming a mom, and how we can use that for our advantage as we are trying to balance it all. We also talk about postpartum depression and vulnerable personal stories of each of our experiences as well as wisdom on how to know how much is too much as moms balancing multiple roles as mom, wife, and business/career. I pray this episode is encouraging for you!
Enjoy!
Hugs!
