🍯 Shanah Tovah! 🍎

As we welcome Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, it's a time for reflection, renewal, and hope. This season reminds us that growth often comes through introspection and that it's okay to seek support along the way.

Mental health matters every day, especially during times of transition and reflection. If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply need someone to talk to, you're not alone. Support is here for you.

Wishing you a sweet, healthy, and peaceful new year.

September 10 is World Su***de Prevention Day

What is World Su***de Prevention Day?

World Su***de Prevention Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness about su***de prevention worldwide. It serves as a reminder that su***de is a preventable form of death, and it aims to promote open discussions about mental health issues, encouraging those who are struggling to seek help.

The central message is one of compassion and action: by reaching out and supporting each other, we can reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and make a significant impact in reducing su***de rates worldwide.

If you or someone you love is struggling, please know that reaching out is a sign of strength. Help is here, and healing is possible.

📚 One of the most rewarding parts of being a clinical counselor at the college level is connecting with first-year seminar students as they begin their academic journey.

This semester, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with other departments, helping students develop not just mental health skills, but life habits rooted in wellness, balance, and self-awareness.

It’s incredible to witness their growth as they learn to navigate new challenges, build support systems, and discover their strengths.

To all my first-years: You’ve got this and you’re never alone on this path.

World Sexual Health Day is an annual event that promotes awareness and education about s*xual health. Its primary goal is to encourage open conversations, reduce stigma, and provide accurate information about various aspects of s*xual health.

This includes s*xual rights, safe practices, contraception, s*xually transmitted infections (STIs), reproductive health, and emotional well-being. In 2025, the focus will be on s*xual justice. The core message for this focus area is that s*xual justice is essential for the achievement of s*xual health, rights, and pleasure for all people without discrimination, fear, shame, and stigma. At its core is consent. Every person has the right to decide if, when and with whom to have s*x.

“When women and girls can make the most fundamental choices about their bodies, they not only gain in terms of autonomy, but also through advances in health and education, income and safety,” UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem has said. “These add up to a world of greater justice and human well-being, which benefits us all.”

🕯️ International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31 🕯️ Today, I honor the lives lost to overdose and stand with those who continue to struggle with substance use and mental health.

Behind every overdose is a story of pain, trauma, and often, untreated mental health challenges. That’s why access to mental health counseling is not optional — it’s essential.

We must break the stigma, support harm reduction, and push for compassionate, comprehensive care that includes mental health support for all.

💜 I remember.
💜 I support.
💜 I advocate for healing.

If you or someone you love is struggling, please know that reaching out is a sign of strength. Help is here, and healing is possible.

🙏 To the mom in Minneapolis today who ran barefoot toward the school — shoes in hand, fear in her heart — millions of moms around the world were running with you.

We may not know your name, but we know your soul.
Because every mom saw themselves in you today.
The desperate sprint. The shaking hands. The prayer that their child is safe.

You ran toward the unthinkable because that’s what moms do — love makes us run through fear. And while you carried your shoes, you carried the weight of every parent who has ever whispered, “Please, not my baby.”

We shouldn’t have to run like this. Not in our neighborhoods, not to our children’s schools. Yet here we are — another day, another headline, another broken piece of our hearts.

But please know this: you weren’t alone. Every mom, every dad, every human who still believes children deserve safety and innocence — we were running with you.

If you or someone you love is struggling, please know that reaching out is a sign of strength. Help is here, and healing is possible.

Today on Women’s Equality Day, we honor the strength, resilience, and voices of women everywhere.

Women’s Equality Day has been celebrated annually on August 26 since 1971, being the anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment which granted women the right to vote. Women’s Equality Day is a symbol of women’s continued fight for equal rights.

At SCAA Community Counseling Center, I recognize that true equality means access to opportunity, to safety, and to support. Mental health is a vital part of that journey.

I'm committed to creating a space where women are heard, validated, and empowered because mental wellness is a right, not a privilege.

Let’s continue to uplift one another and advocate for a more just and equitable future. Need a session, email scaaccc@gmail.com

The Fishermen’s Wives Memorial in Gloucester, MA honors the courage and resilience of the women and children who stood on shore while fishermen sailed into the unknown. Created by sculptor Morgan Faulds Pike and dedicated in August 2001, this 12-foot bronze statue depicts a steadfast widow holding a small child while touching the shoulder of another, symbolizing strength, hope, and family commitment.

Commissioned by the Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Association (GFWA), the memorial reflects decades of advocacy and fundraising by the wives and families seeking recognition for their essential role in the fishing community.

🕊 Honoring Strength, Supporting Healing 🕊
At the Fishermen’s Wives Memorial in Gloucester, we are reminded of the enduring strength of families who face the sea’s uncertainties with love and resilience.

But strength doesn’t mean going it alone.

Behind every statue, every name, and every story, there are real people who’ve carried grief, anxiety, and deep emotional burdens. Today, we honor not just the legacy of those lost, but also the emotional journeys of those left behind.

Mental health matters. Counseling and support can help lighten the weight of loss, stress, and trauma—especially in coastal communities where fishing is not just a job, but a way of life.

If you or someone you love is struggling, please know that reaching out is a sign of strength. Help is here, and healing is possible.

🪟 Sometimes healing begins by simply looking ahead.
Through the window, there’s light. There’s growth.
There’s a future that doesn’t have to look like the past.

If you're feeling stuck, know that it’s okay to pause — but also remember, change often starts with a single, hopeful glance forward.

July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month 🧡

Learn more about at mhanational.org/july

Each July, we honor the legacy of author, advocate, and trailblazer Bebe Moore Campbell by recognizing Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month (also referred to as BIPOC Mental Health Month). Bebe Moore Campbell was an American author, journalist, teacher, and mental health advocate who worked tirelessly to shed light on the mental health needs of the Black community and other underrepresented communities. Moore Campbell’s ability to tell impactful stories highlighting themes of racism, mental health, and family left a lasting mark on this world and is a foundation for much of the work that continues in support of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) mental health.

“While everyone – all colors – everyone is affected by stigma – no one wants to say ‘I’m not in control of my mind.’ No one wants to say, ‘The person I love is not in control of [their] mind.’

But people of color really don’t want to say it because we already feel stigmatized by virtue of skin color or eye shape or accent and we don’t want any more reasons for anyone to say, ‘You’re not good enough.'”
-Bebe Moore Campbell

Bebe Moore Campbell struggled to support her daughter who battled with mental illness and a system that prevented her daughter from getting help and support. She founded NAMI-Inglewood in a predominantly Black neighborhood to create a space that was safe for Black people to talk about mental health concerns.

Throughout her time as an advocate, Campbell made her way to DC. On June 2, 2008, Congress formally recognized Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month to bring awareness to the unique struggles that underrepresented groups face in regard to mental illness in the US.

🌿 Sometimes, the best therapy is just a quiet moment by the window....Whether it's the rustle of trees, the movement of clouds, or the simple act of watching the world go by — looking out can help us look within. 💭

🕯️ Every sunrise is an invitation to rise again - even with a heavy heart 💔 Grief doesn't disappear overnight but each morning offers a chance to continue and remind ourselves we are still here, still breathing and still healing 🙏

📣 Erinn is our first teammate from high school that passed away. She was my tiny flyer with a mighty voice. A successful leader within the Hilton brand as a Senior Director of Global Leadership Development. To say she was impressive would be an understatement. Some people you just know are destined for greatness and Erinn was one of those people. She was super put together but more importantly a pure soul. Her memory has been a blessing to us all ❤️💙

📣 As a cheer coach I push our athletes to form a bond, a Sisterhood, like we had together in high school. Erinn will be shared this season as an example of a wonderful community that is coming together in support and love of such an amazing wife, mother, leader, teammate, and woman of faith. The reminder that we need connections to lean on each other through the stages of life. This is our wake up call. Reunion is coming, stay tuned 🙏

📌 Five Stages of Grief
