Art pioneer or medication induced accident? (TLDR: skip to the bottom for the reveal)

Van Gogh had a complicated medical history, and many theorized he had a wide range of conditions: depression, bipolar, neurosyphilis, epilepsy, auto-mutilation, and ultimately suicidal ideation (1890) to name a few. Digitalis was a medication widely documented and indicated for numerous conditions at the time. He was prescribed digitalis by his physician.

His early work of arts was inspired by Realism. It was not until his later years of life did he implement his more famous style of ‘yellow’ post-impressionism; to list a few: Cafe Terrace at Night, Wheatfield with a Reaper, The Yellow House, and Starry Night.

Digitalis toxicity can induce xanthopsia (yellow vision and make this color appear more vibrant). Anecdotally, some have hypothesized that Vincent Van Gogh suffered from medication induced xanthopsia and that led to his famous art style. Whatever you believe, we can all agree that art is essential to life and culture.

Good things come to those who wait. But better things come to those who work for it!
We’ve waited over 6 months for our lights to be completed! We couldn’t be more thrilled for our staff and patients. We know it’s been rough for everyone, but together we’ll be stronger coming out this pandemic.
Remember to get your eyes examined. Digital eye strain has been on the up and up especially with all the craziness going on this past week. Have you been staring at your computer, phone, tablet, and stocks too long? Have you considered blue light filters for your spectacles? 🚀🚀🚀
Make an appointment in the bio!

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day! See Eye Care believes in equality for all. On this national holiday, we encourage you to read Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic ‘I Have A Dream’ Speech from 1963. It is perplexing to realize just how much this address continues to apply to current events in The United States of America in the year 2021. As many incidents continue to parallel those in the 1960’s, it highlights how much further we need to grow as a nation. However, we believe America is still the land of hope, the land of freedom, and the land of dreams. Enjoy today and remember why we celebrate it.
