Manhattanhenge happens twice a year when the sun sets at just the perfect angle to the east-west streets of New York City to create awe-inspiring sunset views between the skyscrapers. I was always moved by this phenomenon in the city and how there are similar moments in life where everything seems to align. I am excited to announce our team will be transitioning to full-time Mohs surgery and dermatologic surgery at:

How can I improve the appearance of my scars?

Scars are the great human condition, resulting from trauma, injuries, burns, or surgeries that we encounter through life. Any cut on the skin deeper than the epidermis results in a permanent mark, or a so-called scar. Well-healed scars are typically a similar color and depth as the surrounding skin....

It's never too early or too late -- skin cancer prevention tips!

Originally printed in Lake Norman Publications October 2023Skin cancer, the most common type of cancer in the US, is largely caused by sun exposure. While most of us had our share of sun growing up, many patients ask about steps to take now to reduce the risk of developing skin cancer in the future....

New year, new crew! Thankful for this all-star team for a fantastic first day back in Mohs! It’s impressive to see how hard every one here (and many behind the scenes!) works to prepare for every surgery day - from the first patient phone call to the last stitch, from processing slides to partnering together through the healing process. It takes a whole community, and I’m so happy to have found this one 🫶🏼

Pictures from the last year of residency with these impressive ladies! From meeting at patient bedside to studying around the microscope, the days were long but the years were short. We capped off the year by bringing home the nationwide Dermpath Bowl Championship for NYU at the annual dermatology AAD conference!

You had us in stitches!
Learning how to stitch is one of the fundamental skills of surgery and dermatology. Our first “patients” can be anything- fruit, pillow cases, those weird looking mannequin heads. The goal is to get comfortable with using the instruments and tying knots. Here are two teaching sessions we put together for dermatology residents at NYU and Mount Sinai. No wonder they’re looking “sharp” 🪡🪡

First day of intern year - Albert Einstein class of 2014! This is what a bunch of scared kids look like fresh out of medical school on a Philly trolley, who’ve just been given their first long white coats and would spend the next year earning those threads. For every physician, intern year represents the real introduction to medicine— early mornings rounding, night shifts in the ED, learning the intricate networks of the body as well as the hospital system.

We’ll let this one slide…

A microscope slide is a thin piece of glass holding a slice of tissue, a clue to the diagnosis. To develop the “eye” for making diagnoses requires going through boxes and boxes of slides. Here’s one box of treasures and my tiny little studio back in NYC with a big microscope to read the night away!

If it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill, here’s what one of those hours looks like. In dermatology residency, thousands of hours are dedicated to recognizing benign from malignant, normal anatomy from pathology, various different inflammatory patterns. One of the most central aspects of dermatology is the ability to correlate the clinical picture to what we see under the microscope. Turns out going skin deep…is pretty deep!

What ticks you off? 😁
Here’s a crowd favorite— a rapidly changing “mole” that turns out to be a little hitchhiker! This is what a tick looks like enjoying breakfast when magnified using a dermatoscope (the magnifying glass with a light that dermatologists carry around).
