Bianca’s nursing journey began with her grandmother, a nurse who taught her the true meaning of caring for others. One saying she still carries: “If someone is drawing your blood and it hurts, they’re not doing it right.” After caring for her grandmother during her illness and losing her, Bianca chose to honor her legacy by pursuing nursing—first earning her licensed practical nurse credential and later her registered nurse credential.
When she joined the Satellite Team at Atrium Health, she immediately felt at home. She describes the culture as a family and credits her manager, Treka, for creating a supportive and uplifting environment. “When I’m here, it doesn’t feel like work,” she says. “It feels like being with family, lifting each other up with compassion.”
Bianca loves caring for the unit’s diverse patient population, many of whom are mobile and able to communicate their needs. That allows her to build genuine connections. “Each patient is unique, not just because of their illness, but because of who they are,” she says. To her, quality care means listening with empathy, respecting cultural differences and creating moments of comfort and calm.
From her first day, she was welcomed with open arms. Leadership has supported her growth, encouraging her to pursue a supervisor role and further her education. She appreciates leaders who don’t just give answers but teach her how to find them.
She recalls a moment when she and her teammates, across shifts, along with the chaplain, worked together to comfort a worried spouse through consistent communication and reassurance. “In moments like that, teamwork truly makes a difference,” she says.
For nurses considering the Satellite Team, her advice is simple: Go for it. “You’ll feel like family here,” she says. “We support each other, learn from each other and work together to make a real difference for our patients.”
