Carolinas Neuromuscular/ALS-MDA Center Our Center is part of Atrium Health's Neurosciences Institute.

We provide care from a full spectrum of medical, therapeutic and support specialists in an outpatient setting near Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center. Carolinas Neuromuscular Disease/ALS-MDA Center is one of the Southeast's most comprehensive programs for the study and treatment of degenerative neuromuscular diseases. Our neurologists along with their highly trained and compassionate staff, are dedicated to the treatment of neuromuscular diseases in both adult and pediatric patients. Our multidisciplinary approach to patient care integrates all services, enabling us to provide each patient with an individualized care plan, tailored to meet the patient's specific needs. In addition, our center offers support from specialists in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy, social work, counseling for depression/anxiety, nutritional counseling and exercise therapy. We also participate in clinical trials, emphasizing research in novel compounds and new methods in treating and evaluating patients.

Amber Ward OT, recently received training to demonstrate, trial and evaluate clients with severe weakness on the Kinova Jaco robotic arm. Our clinic is the first in the country to offer this service! The robotic arm attaches to and is controlled by a power wheelchair. It can help with eating, drinking, opening doors, wiping noses, pushing up glasses, scratching, turning on lights, etc., etc. Check it out!
