After Nolan’s stroke, his wife, Hazel, did everything she could (and so did the kids). But the weight was heavy.

Then Zae came in.

They weren’t sure how much a caregiver could help, but she jumped in right away to ease the burden and help keep Nolan at home. Housework, exercise, errands… and most importantly, earning his trust.

A 24-year military vet, Nolan wasn’t quick to open up. But now, he and Zae are best buddies. He shares stories. He feels encouraged. And the family gets to see the Nolan they knew before the stroke.

They’re not drowning anymore.

The Carolinas Foundation for Hospice & Home Care held its second Train the Trainer session as apart of a pilot program, funded by the CCME Foundation, the SECU Foundation and Carolina Complete Health , to establish an industry-recommended, standardized training curriculum and onboarding model for newly hired in-home aides who provide personal care services that do not require listing on the Nurse Aide Registry.

By creating a consistent foundation for training and support, this program addresses two major challenges in the home care industry: quality of care and workforce retention. A stronger, better-prepared workforce means better outcomes for patients and families.
