The quadratus lumborum (QL) is a key muscle to look at with low back pain. It helps side bend, extend, and stabilize the lumbar spine, so it works hard during everyday movements.

When the QL becomes tight, compressed, or overworked—especially from repetitive rotation or bending at work, in the gym, or in sports like golf—it can create stubborn tension.

Because the QL attaches into L1–L4, the iliac crest, and the 12th rib, any restriction at these points can keep the muscle locked up. One of the most commonly overlooked? The 12th rib.

Adjusting the rib to release one of the QL’s anchoring points is a simple but effective way to restore motion and provide immediate relief 🙌🏼
