🦵 Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a medical condition characterized by the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, typically in the legs.
Lower extremity symptoms: Swelling, pain, tenderness, and a warm sensation in the affected area, although some individuals may experience no noticeable symptoms at all.
Risks: The clot can dislodge and travel to the lungs, leading to a potentially life-threatening condition known as pulmonary embolism. Factors that increase the likelihood of developing DVT include prolonged immobility, certain medical conditions, obesity, and smoking.
Treatment is crucial and often involves anticoagulant medications to prevent further clotting, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, procedures to remove the clot. Early diagnosis and intervention are vital to reduce complications and improve outcomes for individuals at risk.
