2025 has been a strong year for Teen Health Connection. We have seen thousands of adolescents and young adults walk through our doors to receive medical and behavioral health services, as well as build their leadership skills through our Teen Advisory Board and gather information through our health education programs. Along with those teens, we have connected with families and caregivers who want to better understand their teens and support them in their journey to become healthy, safe and successful young adults. Our parent education workshops and coaching sessions have helped countless family members, caregivers, and partner agencies learn more about issues their teens are facing and how they can help them navigate today’s challenges.
We’ve also benefited from the community engaging with us more through partnerships, media coverage, and social media interaction. During the year, local media outlets have covered our work and highlighted the success of our teens in various ways. New partnerships this year have helped increase awareness and understanding of the work we do while allowing volunteers to gather supplies and resources for our teens through our Amazon wishlist.
Teen Health Connection is proud of the hard work of our behavioral health therapists who have gone above and beyond to receive certification in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Health Therapy (or TFCBT). TFCBT is one of the most respected and well-known evidenced based treatments to address childhood trauma. In Mecklenburg County, there are only approximately 70 total therapists who are certified with the NC Child Treatment Program. This year, we now have 8 therapists rostered in TFBCT.
As the new Executive Director, I’m looking forward to moving our mission forward in 2026. I’m excited about telling our story more and increasing awareness and participation in our medical and behavioral health services. I’m also hopeful as we expand our health education offerings through outreach, promotion of The Big Picture video series, teen leadership development, and parent training. And I’m proud of the work we’re doing in research, evaluation, and advocacy.
I want to personally say “thank you” for helping make 2025 a success for Teen Health Connection and the teens we serve. Your support is invaluable, and we couldn’t do this work without you!
My goal in 2026 is to continue to build on the relationships and partnerships we currently have while also establishing new friendships among donors, partners, and advocates for this work.
I hope you will take time in the coming year to participate in our various events, engage with our social media posts, share our newsletter with friends and family, and contribute to our work through your time, talent, and resources.
Our teens need us now more than ever. On behalf of our adolescents, young adults, and their families, here’s to a great 2026!
With Appreciation and Anticipation,
Dr. Jennifer Thomas
